Help! My post is not visible?!
A complete introduction to /r/History.
Subreddit rules:
- Be nice!
Personal attacks, abusive language, trolling or bigotry in any form is not allowed. No hate material, be it submissions or comments, are accepted.
Follow reddiquette and remember the human.
- No current politics or soapboxing.
Submissions & comments that are overtly political or that attract too much political discussion will be removed; political topics are only acceptable if discussed in a historical context. Comments should discuss a historical topic, not advocate an agenda.
This is entirely at the moderators' discretion and violators will be fed to the bear.
- No posts asking for misunderstood or misrepresented history. This because they have proven to be magnets for comments about discredited fringe theories, false narratives, and disingenuous revisionism.
- Comments should be on-topic and contribute to the conversation in a meaningful way.
- Submissions are limited to events greater than 20 years ago, submission about more recent events will be removed.
- Post in the right subreddit.
Some content is better suited for other subreddits:
- For image image links us /r/HistoryPorn (or put them in a text post and provide proper context)
- Specific questions may be directed /r/AskHistorians.
- Homework questions will be directed to /r/HomeworkHelp
- Personal material with multiple updates (blogs, history journals, academic publications) belong in /r/HistoryBlogs.
- Link submissions that follow the "this day XX years ago XX happened" format belong in /r/ThisDayInHistory .
- Submissions following the "What if X" format (alternative history) belong in /r/HistoryWhatIf.
- Follow the rules and guidelines of reddit.
Do not:
- Spam, in /r/History we use the rule of thumb that if 10% or more of your submissions on all of reddit are your own content it is considered spamming.
- Attempt to manipulate votes.
- Doxx (post personal information about people).
- Post illegal content.
- Post from the original site. Submissions that are simply rehosted articles will be removed.
- When submitting link posts, leave a description, in a comment, following your submission.
Focus on the quality, subject, authority, etc. Be the one that starts the discussion! This should not be a quote from your submission.
- Self Posts require a descriptive body text.
When submitting a self post you should expand a little bit on the title in order to get the discussion started. For example: When submitting a question you can expand on what motivated you to ask the question.
- Titles of links should accurately describe the content, and not be sensationalized or misleading. Rule of thumb: for serious articles the original headline often is the best choice. When in doubt message the mods before submitting your link.
- This is an actively moderated subreddit, calls will be made at the moderator's discretion.
