But he was busy.

Bill Shorten in WA but where's the Prime Minister?

Bill Shorten is in WA to support Mark McGowan during Saturday's election, but it appears the Prime Minister has other plans. Vision: Courtesy ABC News 24.

Busy having a couple of cold ones with the editors of The Betoota Advocate, a satirical online news website run by its larrikin founders Clancy Overell and Errol Parker.

And unfortunately for the PM his pub run came just as federal Labor leader Bill Shorten was talking up the chances of state leader Mark McGowan at a press conference at Yokine Primary just north of the Perth CBD.

And with stoushes over GST and preference deals with One Nation clouding the Liberal's election push, it seems Mr Shorten couldn't resist having a dig at the 'missing' PM.

"I haven't seen my opposite number Mr Turnbull anywhere in WA," Mr Shorten said.

Walking into a Sydney pub, the pair broadcast their drinking session with the Prime Minister on Facebook live.

"Having a bit of a chin wag with the PM - long story short we're going to ask him a few hard questions and a few easy ones and hopefully we'll have a bit of fun along the way," Mr Parker says as the barman slaps a brace of beers down on the table.

"Cheers, good to be here, Betoota Bitter, only the finest," Mr Turnbull says, taking a sip of the ice cold lager.

In between yarning about life as the Prime Minister, kayaking on Sydney Harbour and even the Communist Manifesto, the trio give it a nudge, working their way through several pints each to end up quadruple parked.

And with what's forecast for Mr Barnett's election chances, maybe having a few "throat charmers" might be the right idea...
