Dimitri Morogiannis progresses at ACT Claycourt International qualifiers

Canberra teenager Dimitri Morogiannis progressed on day one of the ACT Claycourt International qualifiers and is two wins away from a spot in Tuesday's main draw.

Morogiannis, 18, came out firing against Michael Commings taking the first set 6-1 before before the latter retired hurt with a leg injury.

The local young gun is hoping to join fellow ACT product James Frawley in the main draw after the 22-year-old was granted a wildcard on Friday.

Morogiannis will next faces Omar Fields after he dispatched Bosko Novakovic. Top seeds Marc Polmans and world No. 252 Omar Jasika were unexpected sign-ins on Friday and both progressed to the second round.

Other notable players in the qualifiers included the cousin of NBA champion Matthew Dellavedova who shares the same name, as well as controversial figure Brandon Walkin who was embroiled in a match fixing scandal last year.
