Man charged after police uncover 38 illegally kept protected wildlife species
By Amy Mitchell-Whittington
A man has been charged after more than 30 protected wildlife species were uncovered by police in central west Queensland.
Police initially stopped the 19-year-old man for a traffic matter at Windorah earlier this week and discovered snakes and lizards in his vehicle.
A search was also done at the accommodation where the New South Wales man was staying, where more reptiles were found.
A total of 38 animals were found including shinglebacks, gidgee skinks, painted dragons, netted dragons, geckos and a curl snake.
He will face Longreach Magistrates Court on April 11 with two charges relating to taking and keeping protected wildlife.
