North Melbourne forward Mason Wood to miss up to eight weeks with hamstring injury

Emerging North Melbourne forward Mason Wood faces another significant stint on the sidelines after the Kangaroos confirmed he had strained his hamstring at training on Friday.

The Roos confirmed on Saturday night that Wood, 23, would miss six to eight weeks with the injury.

Wood has played just 16 games for North in four years at the club, but the esteem in which he is held was highlighted last year when he signed a four-year contract extension.

He missed the last two months of 2016 with a knee injury.

North's general manager of football operations Cameron Joyce said Wood would begin his rehabilitation program immediately.

"We're obviously hoping to have him available as quickly as possible but every step will be taken to ensure he can recover properly and then have an impact for us for the remainder of the year once he's cleared to play," Joyce said.
