Great for: This plant adds a sculptural element and wow factor to a room.Light: Place near a window that gets bright filtered light, but keep away from harsh direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn. Water: As they hail from a tropical climate, most experts advise keeping this ficus steadily moist and in a warm room where possible. OUR TIP: Do not allow it to sit in too much water or it can suffer from root rot.
3. Prep your plantsIf your pot plants can cope, keep watering to a minimum during the week before you move to make them lighter and to reduce mess. I always transport plants in my own car when I move – I don’t trust that removalists will have their best interests at heart. Plastic-lined boxes are the way to go (or a laundry basket!). If you’re moving interstate, check that you can bring your plants with you without violating any laws.

Notice the surroundings. Consider the furnishings around the artwork and set a scene to complete the entire look you’re going for. The small artwork here works so well because of the mixture and heights of the plants and stool below. Without any furnishings, the artwork would look too small for the huge white space. Don’t forget to take into consideration what is actually depicted in the artwork itself. This is an action scene and the many directions of the leaves on the fiddle-leaf fig (far left) continue the trend of action and movement within the interior.

Fiddle Leaf Fig Ask people who own a fiddle leaf fig (Ficus lyrata) and chances are, they will tell you how much they adore it. Fiddle leaf fig mania has taken the interior design world by storm in recent years. Loved for their large, glossy, leathery leaves, they make great houseplants. They are fantastic as larger specimen plants — in a large container, they can easily grow to around 6½ feet tall. Great for: Adding a sculptural element and a wow factor to a room.
