Taking some time away from the Business After Hours event by the Wallaceburg and District Chamber of Commerce, Lisa chats about what the Employment Centre has to offer.
In collaboration with employers and other youth serving agencies, The City of Calgary Youth Employment Centre connected with over 21,000 youth to assist with their career and employment needs in 2014.
Special thanks to both McDonald's Canada and Calgary Winter Club for sponsoring a $1,000 scholarship. Thank you to Blue-Con Excavating Ltd. and Shakers Fun Centre for their support of $500 towards a YEC scholarship.

Employment
Employment is a relationship between two parties, usually based on a contract where work is paid for, where one party, which may be a corporation, not-for-profit organization, or other entity is the employer and the other is the employee. Opening ceremony
An opening ceremony is the official opening of a building or event. The opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup are huge events involving thousands of participants and watched by a massive worldwide audience. On a much smaller scale, some ceremonies mark the opening of a small building such as a shop and are only attended by relatives or friends. Many public buildings, especially schools and libraries, are opened by a special guest.

In the second of a two-talk series hosted by the South Brisbane Greens we will explore what sort of policy program might form the basis for a new emancipatory politics. From a Universal Basic Income to a reduced working week we’ll be asking whether it’s time we started demanding everything.
Speakers:
- Professor Greg Marston, Head of the School of Social Science, UQ. Greg ico-edited a recently published a book on universal basic income.
- Briohny Walker, a Brisbane philosopher and co-founder of Brisbane Free University.
- John Martin, from the Queensland Council of Unions (Queensland Unions).
Australia faces converging, slow motion crises as inequality, insecure work, automation and the impacts of runaway global warming all threaten our wellbeing. Wages have stagnated for the past five years while inequality has grown. The ten richest Australians own as much as the poorest 4 million. More than 1 million Australians work insecure jobs as casuals, contractors or in labour hire. Up to 44% of all jobs are at risk from automation and artificial intelligence by 2030. At the same time, the climate crisis threatens to wreak havoc on our cities and cause massive dislocation.
A Universal Basic Income and a reduced working week have the potential to radically reduce poverty and insecurity, fairly distribute the benefits of automation and reward caring and domestic work. Ultimately, breaking the relationship between work and wages will allow us to abandon the consumption arms race and reduce unsustainable resource use.
We will ask whether, instead of ‘full employment’, we should demand ‘full unemployment’.

Youth unemployment is unlikely to improve in the short term and there is a limit to find solutions within Korea in terms of job creation. It is time to establish fundamental measures that can strengthen the Korean economy in a low fertility and aging society rather than focusing on short term policies to reduce youth unemployment. Despite various advantages of working overseas which creates jobs for young people, the current system and programs of working overseas are not well organized and do not bring the expected results. To increase the employment of young people, more job opportunities abroad, not only domestic jobs, should be promoted through cultivating global leaders and reinforcing national competitiveness. As globalization is progressing at an unprecedented pace, this session seeks to explore measures that could boost youth employment through creating more job opportunities overseas.
