Palau (i/pəˈlaʊ/, historically Belau or Pelew), officially the Republic of Palau (Palauan: Beluu er a Belau), is an island country located in the western Pacific Ocean. The country's population of around 21,000 is spread across 250 islands, which form the western chain of the Caroline Islands in Micronesia. The most populous of these is Koror. The capital Ngerulmud is located on the nearby island of Babeldaob, in Melekeok State. Palau shares maritime boundaries with Indonesia, the Philippines, and the Federated States of Micronesia.
The country was originally settled around 3,000 years ago by migrants from the Philippines and sustained a Negrito population until around 900 years ago. The islands were first visited by Europeans in the 16th century, and were made part of the Spanish East Indies in 1574. Following Spain's defeat in the Spanish–American War in 1898, the islands were sold to Imperial Germany in 1899 under the terms of the German–Spanish Treaty, where they were administered as part of German New Guinea. The Imperial Japanese Navy conquered Palau during World War I, and the islands were later made a part of the Japanese-ruled South Pacific Mandate by the League of Nations. During World War II, skirmishes, including the major Battle of Peleliu, were fought between American and Japanese troops as part of the Mariana and Palau Islands campaign. Along with other Pacific Islands, Palau was made a part of the United States-governed Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands in 1947. Having voted against joining the Federated States of Micronesia in 1979, the islands gained full sovereignty in 1994 under a Compact of Free Association with the United States.

Plot: In the post Spanish civil war years, Catalan kids would sit in circles among the ruins and tell stories, known as "aventis" (the film's original title in Catalan, its original language). These tales mix war stories, local gossip, comic book characters, fantasy and real events. The "aventis" told in this film are told in flashback. In the mid 80s, 45 or so years after the age of the "aventis," a doctor and a nurse-nun (who grew up together, and now are co-workers in a hospital) identify the corpse of one of the main characters of the "aventis" of their childhood and adolescence. Besides the interesting flashbacks - a chronical of the Civil War in a "typical" Barcelona microcosm itself, the discovery of this body (belonging to someone long presumed dead) leads to other surprises and unresolved doubts, several decades later.

Over 470 miles east of the Philippines and locked in by the stretching Pacific Ocean, Palau is a rare oasis, a self-contained, isolated archipelago thriving with biodiversity and abundance. Palau has been named one of the Underwater Wonders of the World. An archipeligo surrounded by a fringe reef, Palau's waters are packed with a great diversity of marine life. x An attraction most can only dream of, this daring and unusual phenomena, Jellyfish Lake, departs radically from convention; for it is an enclosed body of water wherein - over the course of a millennia - resident jellyfish have completely lost their sting because they have not had to fight off predators. Instead, they spend their days ...

Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe The Pacific island nation of Palau is the largest recipient of aid per capita from the United States. It has received more than $852m dollars in US financial assistance over the last 15 years. But Washington is planning to cut back direct assistance by $5m a year and residents fear the impact of any reduction. As Al Jazeera's Divya Gopalan reports, the cutback threatens to lower per capita income on the island by nearly one-quarter, and leave Palau's government struggling to build a viable economy. March 2010 The tiny pacific nation of Palau has declared itself the worlds first national shark sanctuary. A large proportion of the 100 million sharks killed each year, are hunted in its territorial waters. This carnage is being fuelled by Asias rapidly growing appetite for shark fin soup. The sharks are captured, have their fins hacked off and are then thrown overboard to die. If you are a guest of honour they give you a bowl of shark fin soup, says Johnson Toribiong, Palaus president, sometimes they catch sharks illegally, sometimes they catch tuna illegally. This tiny island has warned the world it will protect its natural resources, but with only one patrol boat, can the shark sanctuary ever be enforced? Shark activist Dermott Keane believes they cant do it alone; Palau needs assi...

Helen Reef is an atoll located about 330 mi south of its mother country, Palau in the western Pacific, and about 220 mi north of Sorong, Indonesia. All of Helen Reef is a protected conservation area rich in marine life, in and out of the water. We were lucky to have a chance to visit this isolated area while on route to Palau from Indonesia. Some technical issues, and a forecast for bad weather coming prompted us to stop here. The friendly rangers greeted us after we were safely tied to the conservation area’s mooring. I stayed on the Ocean Hunter III (Fish n' Fins) with a crew of 7 and 6 other divers. All movies and photos were shot on a SeaLife 1400DC camera with strobe. The weather was primarily rainy or cloudy and it was not the classic Palaun visibility that most see (best to go during November through March). Still was awesome! I hope you enjoy it. We decided to rent a car in The Republic of Palau, a chain of islands in the South Pacific between the Philippines and Guam. Across from our hotel, the Palau Hotel was a rent-a-car place that was really inexpensive! $30 a day for the whole day! While Jess loves to plan out adventures, Ben enjoys spur of the moment days. We drove around the 16 states of Palau and saw a few cool spots. We stumbled upon the Etpison Museum and learned about Palauan culture and history and ended the day at the Nagadrmau Waterfall! We got a bit lost looking for the waterfall, but after a 20 minute hike found the main trail and got to play in the water. It then started to rain and we had to stomp around in the mud on the way up. Luckily we had a dry bag to protect our camera gear. All in all, it was quite an ...

Don't you cry, don't you look so sad
We both knew somehow this day would come
I know you want what is best for me
And I need to see you smile
From where I started off to where I am
It's a million miles, I can't go back there again
But no matter where I go from here
You will be part of me from now on
For every door that opens up
When another has to close
You got to trust me now
Be strong and let me go
Watch me now as I go my way
The time has come
And I gotta say I'm not afraid
Watch me now, every step I take
I feel stronger, so much stronger
The road ahead is a mystery
Your love is here
Oh and I believe inside of me
Watch me now, I can stand my ground
I will be alright, yes I'll be alright
You were someone who believed in me
When I wasn't even sure of myself
And I always will remember how
You were always there to help
And I heard so many things from you
And I'm ready now to try them out in the world
Though it hurts too much to say goodbye
We both know (We both know)
There's no other way
I will feel your loving arms
When I'm out there in the cold
'Cause all of my thoughts of you
Will still be mine to hold
Watch me now as I go my way
The time has come
And I gotta say I'm not afraid
Watch me now, every step I take
I feel stronger, so much stronger
The road ahead is a mystery
Your love is here
Oh and I believe inside of me
Watch me now, I can stand my ground
I will be alright, yes I'll be alright
You will find me running back sometime
When I really need a guiding hand
We'll be closer than we were before
And I know that you will understand
I know you'll understand
Watch me now as I go my way
The time has come
And I gotta say I'm not afraid
Watch me now, every step I take
I feel stronger, so much stronger
The road ahead is a mystery
Your love is here
Oh and I believe inside of me
Watch me now, I can stand my ground
I will be alright, yes I'll be alright
