To help celebrate the Australian Press Council’s 40th Anniversary and its proud history of promoting press freedom and high standards of media practice, the Council is hosting a major international conference in Sydney. |

More than 150 people from the media, government, the professions, regulatory bodies, universities and think tanks will attend the conference, which will include a mix of keynote speeches, panel discussions and Q&A sessions. |
Invitations to the conference are being extended to a range of other leading journalists, publishers and thought leaders in Australia and overseas, including the major social media companies which are themselves becoming “publishers” as well as aggregators and curators of information. Press council officials from around the world will also attend. Among our confirmed speakers:
David Barstow, a senior writer at The New York Times and an award- winning investigative journalist.
Kate McClymont, a five-time winner of Australian journalism’s most prestigious award, the Walkley, including the Gold Walkley.
Kate Geraghty, the renowned Australian photojournalist, will deliver a luncheon address on 5 May, entitled “Words Fail Me”.
Madhu Trehan, founding Editor of News Laundry in New Delhi
Anna Nemtsova is a Russian journalist based in Moscow and a correspondent for Newsweek and The Daily Beast.
