The Sea of Japan is a marginal sea between the Japanese archipelago, Sakhalin, and the Asian mainland. The Japanese archipelago separates the sea from the Pacific Ocean. It is bordered by Japan, North Korea, Russia and South Korea. Like the Mediterranean Sea, it has almost no tides due to its nearly complete enclosure from the Pacific Ocean. This isolation also reflects in the fauna species and in the water salinity, which is lower than in the ocean. The sea has no large islands, bays or capes. Its water balance is mostly determined by the inflow and outflow through the straits connecting it to the neighboring seas and Pacific Ocean. Few rivers discharge into the sea and their total contribution to the water exchange is within 1%.
The seawater has an elevated concentration of dissolved oxygen that results in high biological productivity. Therefore, fishing is the dominant economic activity in the region. The intensity of shipments across the sea has been moderate owing to political issues, but it is steadily increasing as a result of the growth of East Asian economies.

Japan (i/dʒəˈpæn/; Japanese: 日本 Nippon [nip̚põ̞ɴ] or Nihon [nihõ̞ɴ]; formally 日本国 Nippon-koku or Nihon-koku, "State of Japan") is an island country in East Asia. Located in the Pacific Ocean, it lies to the east of the Sea of Japan, the East China Sea, China, North Korea, South Korea and Russia, stretching from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea and Taiwan in the south. The kanji that make up Japan's name mean "sun origin", and Japan is often called the "Land of the Rising Sun".
Japan is a stratovolcanic archipelago of 6,852 islands. The four largest are Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku, which make up about ninety-seven percent of Japan's land area. Japan's population of 126 million is the world's tenth largest. Approximately 9.1 million people live in Tokyo, the capital city of Japan, which is the sixth largest city proper in the OECD. The Greater Tokyo Area, which includes Tokyo and several surrounding prefectures, is the world's largest metropolitan area with over 35 million residents and the world's largest urban agglomeration economy.
Aokigahara (青木ヶ原), also known as the Suicide Forest or Sea of Trees (樹海, Jukai), is a 35-square-kilometre (14 sq mi) forest that lies at Mount Fuji's northwest base in Japan. The forest contains a large number of rocky icy caverns, a few of which are popular tourist destinations. Aokigahara forest is dense, shutting out all but the natural sounds of the forest itself.
The forest has a historic association with "yūrei" or ghosts of the dead in Japanese mythology, and it is a notoriously common suicide site (in which 54 took place in 2010). For this reason, a sign at the head of the main trail urges suicidal visitors to think of their families and contact a suicide prevention association.
The forest floor consists primarily of volcanic rock and is difficult to penetrate with hand tools such as picks or shovels. The forest itself is very dense, and one can get lost easily if leaving the official trails. Because of this, in recent years, hikers and tourists trekking through Aokigahara have begun to use plastic tape to mark their paths so as to avoid getting lost. Past the designated trails leading to tourist attractions such as the Ice Cave and Wind Cave, the first kilometer of the forest is littered with tape and other rubbish left by tourists, despite officials' attempts to remove it. After the first kilometer into Aokigahara towards Mount Fuji within the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, the forest is in better condition, with little to no litter and few obvious signs of human presence.
What is the issue regarding the name "Sea of Japan" ? This video is the official video which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Japanese government manufactured. You can know details. http://www.mofa.go.jp/policy/maritime/japan/index.html
China says it has carried out drills in the Sea of Japan, a body of water the country has no border with.Beijing says the exercises were part of annual training arrangements and were done in accordance with international law. It didn’t mention where exactly the drills were conducted, but stated that they took place in international waters. China has beefed up military drills in waters far from its shores. The country says such exercises are not aimed at any country or region and are only done to hone operational skills of its navy. Exploring Aokigahara, known as Japan's "Suicide Forest," and the setting of the upcoming film "Sea of Trees," starring Matthew McConaughey, Ken Watanabe and Naomi Watts, and directed by Gus Van Sant. Unlike Van Sant's Sea of Trees, this is filmed on location. Japanese authorities recover up to a hundred bodies a year in the sea of trees, most victims of suicide. I went into the sea of trees, also known as Jukai in Japan, on the morning of July 31st. The portion of Aokigahara infamous in Japanese culture and folklore for its restless spirits can be reached from the walking path that connects the Fugaku Lava Cave and Narusawa Ice Cave, accessible by the No. 1 Green Line bus from Kawaguchiko station at the base of Mt. Fuji. I don't recommend going in alone.
On May 26, 1983 at 11:59:57 local time, a magnitude-7.7 earthquake occurred in the Sea of Japan, about 100 km west of the coast of Noshiro in Akita Prefecture, Japan. Out of the 107 fatalities, all but four were killed by the resulting tsunami, which struck communities along the coast, especially Aomori and Akita Prefectures and the east coast of Noto Peninsula. Footage of the tsunami hitting the fishing harbor of Wajima on Noto Peninsula was broadcast on TV. The waves exceeded 10 meters in some areas. Three of the fatalities were along the east coast of South Korea (whether North Korea was affected is not known).

this the LONG clip of 12/30/2011 in a heavy storm as seen from the bridge of a container ship on the Sea of Japan-a fabulous experience-as you can see how the ship is leaning-and amazing enough, small fishing boats were spotted in this sea looking like bobbers-very difficult to catch any on video.

Here are some of the best local street food to try in Tsukiji! From Japanese sweets like maguro yaki (tuna shaped taiyaki) to savouries like the popular sea urchin and eel sticks :) Check out DogaTV’s Tsukiji videos here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doSAo_KDiyk&list;=PLuY8w8AAmKjEC6-Vip7gf_Y3u1anHLW1w&index;=3 In the end of the video I also gave some tips about which sushi restaurant to pick to eat at in Tsukiji and in short all of the sushi shops are great - the fish all come from the same place so the sushi is all pretty similar! The crowded places with huge lines are often just because they are advertised more on the internet or have a English friendly website. Local shops are less advertised online as they already have a reputation with the locals so go somewhere different from al...
