It’s MRSA, and even people in the best health may still be infected. This medical video will tell you all about it. What is it? MRSA, which stands for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureas, is living microscopic bacteria that causes severe infections throughout your body. Its principal characteristic is its resistance to certain antibiotics such as penicillins and cephalosporins. Because it’s so difficult to treat, it’s been nicknamed in the dermatology world as “the super bug.” Where is it located? MRSA was first discovered in 1961 and since then can be found everywhere from hospitals and nursing homes to daycares, military bases, and prisons. It most commonly affects those with weak immune systems such as children and the elderly, where it thrives in hotspots like your nose and underarms. The first American case appeared in 1968. How will it kill you? MRSA infections occur from direct contact with an infected person or object, such as razors, towels, and sports equipment. The bacteria attaches to your skin then enters your bloodstream via wounds on your skin, lung inhalation, and even the urinary tract. Infection initially begins with a painful red swelling on the skin called cysts, then progresses to breathing difficulties, fever, and the chills. Death occurs when these conditions are left untreated. How to survive: The most effective method of reducing your risk of infection is through proper hygiene. This includes washing your hands with soap and water, regular showers after exercising, and keeping your wounds clean with bandages and ointments. Infections can usually be treated with strong antibiotics. But MRSA is constantly adapting and building its resistance to these treatments, so hospitals and researchers are continually developing new medicines to keep up with its ever-changing state. After 3 days of battling a staph infection/MRSA in my chin it was time for the doctor to lance and drain for what was the most painful experience of my life... My only advice is keep your cuts clean, wash your hands and if you get anything like this go to the doctor ASAP!

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) (/ɛmɑːrɛseɪ/ or /ˈmɜːrsə/) is a bacterium responsible for several difficult-to-treat infections in humans. It is also called oxacillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (ORSA). MRSA is any strain of Staphylococcus aureus that has developed, through the process of natural selection, resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics, which include the penicillins (methicillin, dicloxacillin, nafcillin, oxacillin, etc.) and the cephalosporins. Strains unable to resist these antibiotics are classified as methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus, or MSSA. The evolution of such resistance does not cause the organism to be more intrinsically virulent than strains of S. aureus that have no antibiotic resistance, but resistance does make MRSA infection more difficult to treat with standard types of antibiotics and thus more dangerous.

MRSA is especially troublesome in hospitals, prisons, and nursing homes, where patients with open wounds, invasive devices, and weakened immune systems are at greater risk of nosocomial infection than the general public. MRSA began as a hospital-acquired infection, but has developed limited endemic status and is now sometimes community-acquired and livestock-acquired. The terms HA-MRSA (healthcare-associated MRSA), CA-MRSA (community-associated MRSA) and LA-MRSA (livestock-associated) reflect this distinction.

Lance and draining MRSA staph infection on face || VERY GRAPHIC 18+

After 3 days of battling a staph infection/MRSA in my chin it was time for the doctor to lance and drain for what was the most painful experience of my life... My only advice is keep your cuts clean, wash your hands and if you get anything like this go to the doctor ASAP!

The bacteria attaches to your skin then enters your bloodstream via wounds on your skin, lung inhalation, and even the urinary tract.
