I am thinking of the one I like best and that is The Arrival. What an amazing story.

Saw Hidden Figures about a month or so ago (managed to see an early screening) and it is incredible. I hope it does well in the awards, it deserves it. Fences is my highest priority out of the other nominees to watch next. Viola Davis is amazing in everything she does.

Have to admit, I'm still disappointed that A Monster Calls wasn't nominated for anything. It was a phenomenal and breath taking movie that deserved some recognition. It was one of the best adaptations I've ever seen, as well, as it stayed incredibly close to the source material.

Arrival was amazing. A truly original take on such an overdone topic. Also, best twist of the year.

I agree Emiel. I keep thinking what I would do in those same circumstances.

Someday, I'll read every single book listed over here and watch the movies based on them. Amen. :-):-)

I have to say that my favourite adaptation isn't nominated ("Nocturnal animals"). Of the ones nominated, I vote for "Arrival" ("The story of your life")

Hidden Figures was fantastic and is on my TBR list.

Arrival was excellent.

Although not in the Best Picture category, hoping the Scorsese historical drama film Silence wins the Oscar for Best Cinematography. The movie was amazing and I just started the book.

Agreed. A Monster Calls was brilliant; I was so happy to see how much it stuck to the book & how the tears I produced reading it were still in full effect when watching the complex emotions played out on-screen. Definitely underrated, such a shame.

I saw Hidden Figures and loved it. I'm not watching the Oscars this year because the actors might get uppity about President Trump and encourage people not to follow him. I don't like people that don't support Trump.

I knew a left vs. right debate would happen, though I figured it would be over La La Land and how one side would claim that the only reason it was nominated (and won) so many times because the leads were both white.

I'm just happy that Trolls lost. Screw that piece of shit movie. I hope Dreamworks realizes how much they screwed up by not using the Good Luck Troll designs.

But the audience for this movie doesn't know the original trolls. Their parents might, but they definitely do not.

Oh, same here! I was a blubbering wreck by the end of the book and, sure enough, I was exactly the same at the end of the film. I'm hoping it will garner some more recognition but it doesn't seem to have received much which is such a shame. Such a gorgeous movie in every way.
