The legacy of Linc’s Tackle: A tale of internment and Seattle’s rich Japanese heritage

Linc’s Tackle has been the heart and soul of Seattle’s urban fishing culture for generations. But that legacy almost didn’t exist when the Beppus, shop owners since the 1930s, were interned during World War II. (Lauren Frohne / The Seattle Times)

Next month, the Beppu family will close down their celebrated Linc's tackle shop. It's the end of an era for Seattle, whose heritage is intertwined with the World War II internment of Japanese-Americans.

Many of the LED-lit patterns are from the Chinese zodiac including Year of the Rooster. ArtSite’s (CQ) Denise Bisio and Roger Waterhouse are doing installation and the expanded part is expected to open later this year. The expansion occupies the former post office site and Parks and Green Spaces levy allocated $3 million for planning, design and construction.
The park is at 423 Maynard Ave. South. Steps will have textured non-skid surfaces and seats will have wooden elements installed.

Chinatown International District’s Hing Hay Park gets bigger and brighter

One teacher said they use the park as a place for the children to play during recess. The school really emphasizes that students are in touch with the natural world and experience its elements. Children in the early youth childhood program spend much of their time outdoors. On Fridays, they spend all day outside, sometimes regardless of the weather.

Sam Maybee’s CQ T-Rex outfit is “so hot” he gets help to get a breather as he cruises the floors at the Emerald City Comicon on its first day at the Washington State Convention Center. The event draws tens of thousands over four days, through Sunday. He bought the costume online for $50.00.
