You’re not going out in that?
Talk about pulling the wings off butterflies. ArtyA dial artist Dominique Arpa-Cirpka has not merely turned to the insect for inspiration, but gone for the real thing, incorporating bits of actual butterfly wing into the brand’s Son of Earth line.
The wings come from the Lepidoptera auriferous family, and according to the brand have been harvested “under the strict control of the relevant authorities, and with their full consent”. Presumably the RSPCI butterfly wing division. The Geneva-based brand’s founder, Yvan Arpa, sees the butterfly watch as “bringing a gentle breeze of something new, enabling us to engage a whole new gamut of sensibilities”.
“Sensible” is not quite the word that springs to mind when looking at the dial’s blend of green, orange and black hues enhanced with gold leaf, the texture of those wings naturally reflecting light. The self-winding watch is available in sizes ranging from 38mm to 47mm – no doubt great for accommodating a variety of wing spans. And should Arpa’s authorship of the timepiece slip your memory, the hour hand is helpfully decorated with an unmissable “A”.
Or maybe that’s for effort…
