An international airport is an airport that offers customs and immigration facilities for passengers travelling between countries. International airports are typically larger than domestic airports and often feature longer runways and facilities to accommodate the heavier aircraft commonly used for international and intercontinental travel. International airports often also host domestic flights. Some, such as Frankfurt Airport in Germany are very large; others such as Fa'a'ā International Airport in Tahiti, are quite small.
Buildings, operations and management have become increasingly sophisticated since the mid 20th century, when international airports began to provide infrastructure for international civilian flights. Detailed technical standards have been developed to ensure safety and common coding systems implemented to provide global consistency. The physical structures that serve millions of individual passengers and flights are among the most complex and interconnected in the world. By the second decade of the 21st century, there were over 1,200 international airports and almost two billion international passengers along with 50 million metric tonnes of cargo were passing through them annually.
PDX may refer to:
An airport is an aerodrome with facilities for flights to take off and land. Airports often have facilities to store and maintain aircraft, and a control tower. An airport consists of a landing area, which comprises an aerially accessible open space including at least one operationally active surface such as a runway for a plane to take off or a helipad, and often includes adjacent utility buildings such as control towers, hangars and terminals. Larger airports may have fixed base operator services, airport aprons, air traffic control centres, passenger facilities such as restaurants and lounges, and emergency services.
An airport with a helipad for rotorcraft but no runway is called a heliport. An airport for use by seaplanes and amphibious aircraft is called a seaplane base. Such a base typically includes a stretch of open water for takeoffs and landings, and seaplane docks for tying-up.
An international airport has additional facilities for customs and immigration.
In warfare, airports can become the focus of intense fighting, for example the Battle of Tripoli Airport or the Battle for Donetsk Airport, both taking place in 2014. An airport primarily for military use is called an airbase or air station.
Portland International Airport (IATA: PDX, ICAO: KPDX, FAA LID: PDX) is a joint civil-military airport and the largest airport in the U.S. state of Oregon, accounting for 90 percent of passenger travel and more than 95 percent of air cargo of the state. It is located within Portland's city limits just south of the Columbia River in Multnomah County, 6 miles (10 kilometers) by air and 12 mi (19 km) by highway northeast of Downtown Portland. Portland International Airport is often referred to by its IATA airport code, PDX.
Portland International Airport has direct connections to major airport hubs throughout the United States, and non-stop international flights to Canada, Germany, Iceland, Japan, Mexico, and the Netherlands. The airport is a secondary hub for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air, with Seattle/Tacoma International Airport as the primary hub for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. The airport also serves as a maintenance facility for Horizon Air. Small regional carrier SeaPort Airlines operates its Pacific Northwest hub at PDX. General aviation services are provided at PDX by Atlantic Aviation. The Oregon Air National Guard has a base located on the southwest portion of the airport property grounds, and is also the host unit of the 142d Fighter Wing (142 FW) and the F-15 Eagle. Local transportation includes the MAX Red Line, which takes passengers between PDX and Downtown Portland as well as farther west to Beaverton, Oregon. There is also Interstate 205, which connects to southwestern Washington (north from PDX) along with many suburbs of Portland (south from PDX).
International mostly means something (a company, language, or organization) involving more than a single country. The term international as a word means involvement of, interaction between or encompassing more than one nation, or generally beyond national boundaries. For example, international law, which is applied by more than one country and usually everywhere on Earth, and international language which is a language spoken by residents of more than one country.
The term international was coined by the utilitarian philosopher Jeremy Bentham in his Introduction to Principles of Morals and Legislation, which was printed for publication in 1780 and published in 1789. Bentham wrote: "The word international, it must be acknowledged, is a new one; though, it is hoped, sufficiently analogous and intelligible. It is calculated to express, in a more significant way, the branch of law which goes commonly under the name of the law of nations. The word was adopted in French in 1801.Thomas Erskine Holland noted in his article on Bentham in the 11th edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica that "Many of Bentham's phrases, such as 'international,' 'utilitarian,' 'codification,' are valuable additions to our language; but the majority of them, especially those of Greek derivation, have taken no root in it."
Had a great time planespotting with Rocknroller92 of https://www.youtube.com/user/rocknroller92. I certainly do plan to return and planespot with many more of the local Portland PDX Airport crew but for this video it was just us. We certainly would've and tried to invite other spotters but due to time constraints were unable to make it work. Filmed earlier in July of 2016, I've been super busy these days traveling the country and scouting out airports for future videos... Featured...... There's no way I have the time to write a description fitting enough for this video.... that being said, let me say that planespotting from the terminal is an incredibly challenging and sometimes frustrating way to planespot. There are always the unexpected noises, interruptions, unforeseen circumstances and difficulties that come with trying to make a decent video from behind concourse glass. Additionally, bright sunlight reflects very well off of everything inside the airport through the glass and causes the video captured to sometimes have a multi-colored or faded-out look to it. Despite the circumstances...I have to say I'm rather pleased with how this turned out anyway. You may notice a few clips are out-of-order but I think it helps the flow of the video better. Everything is sold
For highway's guns and gold
The earth, the sky, the sea
Future and history
This is not how it's supposed to be
And those who died to set us free
Must be ashamed of our liberty
In a self serving society
Where computers are a deity
And everything's about the me
We sit by and watch it all die
Trained not to try
As the ghosts begin to cry
This is not how it's supposed to be
And those who died to set us free
Must be afraid of our liberty
In a self serving society
Where computers are a deity
And everything's about the me
The parade is all lies
It's a death march in disguise
Where we bury our hearts
So we can play our parts
In a self serving society
Where computers are a deity
And everything's about the me
And Christ gets locked up in a cell
The prophets are all there as well
For teaching is about the hell
So come back to life
So come back to life
No this is not how it's supposed to be
And those who died to set us free
Must be ashamed of our liberty
And Christ gets locked up in a cell
The prophets are all there as well
