Paris

Paris (UK: /ˈpærɪs/ PARR-iss; US: ⁱ/ˈpɛərɪs/ PAIR-iss; French: [paʁi]) is the capital and most populous city of France. Situated on the Seine River, in the north of the country, it is in the centre of the Île-de-France region, also known as the région parisienne, "Paris Region". The City of Paris has an area of 105 km² (41 mi²) and a population of 2,241,346 (2014 estimate) within its administrative borders essentially unchanged since 1860.

Since the 19th century, the built-up area of Paris has grown far beyond its administrative borders; together with its suburbs, the whole agglomeration has a population of 10,550,350 (Jan. 2012 census).Paris' metropolitan area spans most of the Paris region and has a population of 12,341,418 (Jan. 2012 census), or one-fifth of the population of France. The administrative region covers 12,012 km² (4,638 mi²), with approximately 12 million inhabitants as of 2014, and has its own regional council and president.

Paris was founded in the 3rd century BC by a Celtic people called the Parisii, who gave the city its name. By the 12th century, Paris was the largest city in the western world, a prosperous trading centre, and the home of the University of Paris, one of the first in Europe. In the 18th century, it was the centre stage for the French Revolution, and became an important centre of finance, commerce, fashion, science, and the arts, a position it still retains today.

Super Rich Kids

"Super Rich Kids" is a song by American recording artist Frank Ocean, and the fifth single from his debut studio album, Channel Orange. It was first performed live by Ocean in 2011 and then on his channel ORANGE tour in 2012. The single was released in March 2013. The song is in the style of R&B and neo soul, and includes references to and samples of the songs "Bennie and the Jets" by Elton John and "Real Love" by Mary J. Blige. It addresses young, wealthy characters' ennui and fears of the financial crisis with dry humor. The song received positive critical responses and charted on the Billboard R&B Songs chart and the UK singles and R&B chart. The song also appeared on the TV show Gossip Girl and the film The Bling Ring.

Background

"Super Rich Kids" was written by Frank Ocean, Malay, Earl Sweatshirt, Kirk Robinson, Nathaniel Robinson Jr., Roy Hammond, Mark Morales and Mark Rooney and produced by Malay. Ocean and Malay came up with "Super Rich Kids" on their first day working together on Ocean's debut album, channel ORANGE. According to Ocean, the 2000 film Traffic was an inspiration for the song. Ocean first performed the song during his debut solo tour in 2011, and later performed it on the Channel Orange tour. The single release was originally announced on January 23, 2013. It was released in Britain on March 11, and in the United States on the 17th.

Rich Kids

Rich Kids were a short-lived new wave band from London, founded in 1977 by Glen Matlock following his departure from Sex Pistols. The band also included future Ultravox member Midge Ure, and Rusty Egan, who later founded Visage. They released one album and three singles during their existence, from March 1977 to December 1978 (although the official announcement of their disbanding was not made until mid-1979).

Rich Kids were amongst the foremost British exponents of the power pop style, blending influences from 1960s acts such as Small Faces and The Who with more recent punk rock sounds. With only one single making the Top 40 in the UK Singles Chart, Rich Kids join the list of one-hit wonders; a list that includes other UK punk or new wave acts such as John Cooper Clarke, Jilted John, 999, the Radio Stars, and The Vibrators.

Career

Rich Kids were formed in 1977 by bass player Glen Matlock after he left Sex Pistols. An early line-up consisted of keyboardist and guitar player Bill Smyth, Rusty Egan on drums, Steve New on lead guitar, and The Clash's Mick Jones, who acted as a session live player.Glaswegian Midge Ure, whose band Slik had split up and reformed as the punk sounding PVC2, moved to London and joined Rich Kids. Smyth left the group followed by Jones, who continued with The Clash.

Frank Ocean

Christopher Francis "Frank" Ocean (born Christopher Edwin Breaux October 28, 1987), is an American singer, songwriter and rapper from New Orleans, Louisiana. Ocean embarked on his musical career as a ghostwriter for several prominent artists, including John Legend, Justin Bieber and Brandy. In 2010, he became a member of alternative hip hop collective OFWGKTA, also known as Odd Future. Ocean subsequently released his breakout mixtape, Nostalgia, Ultra, to critical acclaim in 2011. The singles, "Novacane" and "Swim Good", both achieved chart success. In 2012, Ocean finished in second place in BBC's Sound of 2012 poll.

His debut studio album, Channel Orange, was released in July 2012 to critical acclaim and was promoted with three charting singles: "Thinkin Bout You", "Pyramids" and "Sweet Life". That year, Ocean also became one of the first major African-American music artists to announce that he was on the LGBT spectrum. Ocean's music has been characterized by music writers as idiosyncratic in style.

The Stunning

The Stunning are an Irish rock band formed in 1987. In the seven years that they were initially together, they toured relentlessly building up a following that would make them one of the most successful Irish bands ever. In 1990 their debut album Paradise In The Picturehouse spent five weeks at number one and became one of the most-loved Irish albums of all time. Two years later, the follow up Once Around The World also hit the number one spot, and the band went on to sell over 100,000 albums in Ireland alone. Brewing Up A Storm has become an anthem of sorts and is to be heard everywhere from football stadiums to clubs around the country where it is still a guaranteed floor-filler. Songs such as Half Past Two, Romeo’s on Fire, and Everything that Rises are still to be heard on the radio and have been featured in movies and numerous compilation albums of the best of Irish rock. They toured the US and the UK with the likes of Bob Dylan and the B52’s. During their time, the band scooped every music prize and award going and their music is still to be heard on the airwaves. The band split up in 1994 to pursue other interests and they reformed in 2003 to support the re-release of their debut album Paradise in the Picturehouse. They perform regularly for select Irish shows and festivals, and in 2014 they returned to New York and Boston for their first gigs there since the early nineties. The band are currently in the studio recording new material, set for release in early 2016.
