Adele confirms marriage in Brisbane
After months of speculation, the 28-year-old singer confirms she has tied the knot with her long-term partner Simon Konecki while performing in Brisbane.
But that came a day after telling screaming fans that she is "practically married", hinting the pair were happily de facto. Even the most diehard Adele fans would be forgiven for being just a little confused by that comment, given the singer thanked her "husband" at the Grammys (without naming names, of course).
Adele has kept her marital status a closely-guarded secret. In the past she's refused to say whether or not she is married.
She started dating Konecki back in 2011 and gave birth to a son one year later. Now, it appears Konecki did in fact decide to put a ring on it.
"That feeling when you first fall for someone is the best feeling on earth," she said while introducing her hit single Someone Like You on Sunday. "I am addicted to that feeling. Obviously I can't go through with those feelings because I'm married now."
Ed Sheeran reportedly introduced the couple and they hit it off, despite Adele originally planning to remain single and focus on her career. The singer told screaming fans Someone Like You was intended to capture how she felt when first meeting Konecki.
"You know when you first meet someone, and everything about you just feels alive?" she said. "I wanted to go back to that and that's what this song is about. It is sad, and it is heartbreaking, but it's also about being grateful and blessed for the chance to have certain people in your lives."
Adele is renowned for valuing her privacy, especially when it comes to her four-year-old son.
When the singer landed in Sydney late last month ahead of the Australian leg of her 2017 world tour, she had her lawyers fire off legal letters to local media outlets threatening legal action should they publish photos of her child.
Adele has 15 Grammy awards under her belt, most recently snapping up Album of the Year for her third studio album 25. As a result, she is one of the most highly-paid singers of all time.
During her 2016 world tour, Adele was raking in more than $800,000 a night.
Adele will be performing in Sydney this weekend, followed by Adelaide and Melbourne the following week.
