Muslim journalist Mehdi Hasan, political editor of the Huffington Post, warns Anne-Marie Waters that her "astonishing claims" might endanger her future as a Labour Party candidate, but assured her "don't worry, the BNP will take you".
Hasan asks why, if Islam is "responsible for killing," such a tiny percentage of believers actually participate in violence. He asks the audience if they really believe that 1.6 billion people are all "followers, promoters and believers in a religion of violence".
Hasan urges them not to "fuel the arguments of the phobes and bigots and legitimise hate", but to "trust the Muslims that you know and that you hear."

Mehdi Hassan is one of the greatest Ghazal stars of all times. He is one of the key elements in popularizing Urdu poetry sung in melodious tunes. He was a famous playback singer who made ghazals a part of the film industry of South Asia.
Mehdi Hassan was fondly awarded the title of "King of Ghazal" or the "Shahansah-e-Ghazal". His Beautiful baritone voice is what made him such a popular singer and also spread the art form of Urdu Ghazals to a wider audience. Mehdi Hassan influenced an array of next gen Ghazal singers which include maestros like Jagjit Singh who were great followers of Mehdi Hassan. Mehdi Hassan's playback singing career brought him many accolades.
Mehdi Hassan was born in a small village called Luna in Rajasthan. He hailed from a traditional Musical family. It is said that his family belonged to the Kalawat clan of musicians and Mehdi was the 16th generation. Mehdi Hassan's tutelage took place under his father Ustad Azim Khan and uncle Ustad Ismail Khan who were both Dhrupad singers. Post independence Hassan and his family moved to Pakistan, where they went through terrible financial crisis. Mehdi Hassan did many odd jobs during this tenure but he was never out of touch with the love of his life, music. In 1957 Mehdi got the opportunity to sing in Radio Pakistan as a Thumri singer. This was the beginning of his singing career. Mehdi was greatly passionate about Urdu poetry and that is how he started dabbling with Ghazals. Then he got his first playback break in 1962 for the film Susral and there was no looking back for Mehdi Hassan. His name became synonymous with the art form.
This album contains some of the Mehdi Hassan Classics. Some of them are immortal songs which are being listened by Ghazal lovers for generation after generation. Songs like"Mein Khyal Hoon" and "Ab Ke Hum Bichhre" are evergreen hits which are there in this album. This is a Ghazal listener's holy grail.

Mehdi Hassan Khan (Urdu: মিঃ মাহাদি ; 18 July 1927 – 13 June 2012) was a Pakistani ghazal singer and a film playback singer for Lollywood. One of the greatest and most influential figures in the history of ghazal singing, he is famously known as the "King of Ghazal" or the "Shahanshah-e-Ghazal". Known for his "haunting" baritone voice, Mehdi Hassan is credited with bringing ghazal singing to a worldwide audience. Born to a musical family, he influenced generations of singers from diverse genres, from Jagjit Singh to Sonu Nigam. He earned numerous awards and accolades in his career and remained a leading singer of film industry along with the other contemporary playback singer Ahmed Rushdi.
Early life
Mehdi Hassan was born on 18 July 1927 in a village called Luna, Rajasthan in Jhunjhunu district in India into a family of traditional musicians. He claims to be the 16th generation of hereditary musicians hailing from the Kalawant clan of musicians. Mehdi Hassan had his musical grooming from his father Ustad Azeem Khan and uncle Ustad Ismail Khan who were both traditional Dhrupad singers. Hassan started to perform at a young age and the first concert of dhrupad and kheyal with his elder brother is reported to have been held in Fazilka Bungla, near present DC House (1935) of Undivided Punjab. After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, 20-year-old Hassan and his family migrated to Pakistan and suffered severe financial hardships.

Mehdi Hasan
Mehdi Hasan (born 1979) is a British political journalist, broadcaster and author.
As a journalist and author, Hasan is the co-author of a biography of Ed Miliband and the political editor of the UK version of The Huffington Post. From a British Indian background, he is the presenter of Al Jazeera English shows The Café and Head to Head and UpFront.
In 2015, Hasan moved to Washington DC to work full time for Al Jazeera on UpFront.
Education
Hasan was educated at Merchant Taylors' School, a day independent school for boys at Sandy Lodge in the Three Rivers District of Hertfordshire, near the town of Northwood in North West London, followed by Christ Church at the University of Oxford, where he read Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), and graduated in 2000.
Life and career
Hasan worked as a researcher and then producer on LWT's Jonathan Dimbleby programme, with a brief period in between on BBC1's The Politics Show. Following this, he became deputy executive producer on Sky's breakfast show Sunrise before moving to Channel 4 as their editor of news and current affairs. He was appointed senior editor (politics) at the New Statesman in late spring of 2009, where he stayed until May 2012, then becoming political director of The Huffington Post website.

Oxford Union
The Oxford Union Society, commonly referred to simply as the Oxford Union, is a debating society in the city of Oxford, England, whose membership is drawn primarily from the University of Oxford. Founded in 1823, it is Britain's third oldest University Union (after the University of St Andrews Union Debating Society and Cambridge Union Society), and has trained politicians from Britain and other countries.
Status and membership
The Oxford Union is an unincorporated association, holding its property in trust in favour of its objectives and members, and governed by its rules (which form a multi-partite contract between the members).
Since its foundation, it has been independent of the University: historically, this was because the Victorian University restricted junior members from discussing certain issues (for example, theology). Despite such restrictions since being lifted, it has remained entirely separate from the University, and is constitutionally bound to remain so.

Muslim journalist Mehdi Hasan, political editor of the Huffington Post, warns Anne-Marie Waters that her "astonishing claims" might endanger her future as a Labour Party candidate, but assured her "don't worry, the BNP will take you".
Hasan asks why, if Islam is "responsible for killing," such a tiny percentage of believers actually participate in violence. He asks the audience if they really believe that 1.6 billion people are all "followers, promoters and believers in a religion of violence".
Hasan urges them not to "fuel the arguments of the phobes and bigots and legitimise hate", but to "trust the Muslims that you know and that you hear."

Mehdi Hassan was fondly awarded the title of "King of Ghazal" or the "Shahansah-e-Ghazal". His Beautiful baritone voice is what made him such a popular singer and also spread the art form of Urdu Ghazals to a wider audience. Mehdi Hassan influenced an array of next gen Ghazal singers which include maestros like Jagjit Singh who were great followers of Mehdi Hassan. Mehdi Hassan's playback singing career brought him many accolades.
Mehdi Hassan was born in a small village called Luna in Rajasthan. He hailed from a traditional Musical family. It is said that his family belonged to the Kalawat clan of musicians and Mehdi was the 16th generation. Mehdi Hassan's tutelage took place under his father Ustad Azim Khan and uncle Ustad Ismail Khan who were both Dhrupad singers. Post independence Hassan and his family moved to Pakistan, where they went through terrible financial crisis. Mehdi Hassan did many odd jobs during this tenure but he was never out of touch with the love of his life, music. In 1957 Mehdi got the opportunity to sing in Radio Pakistan as a Thumri singer. This was the beginning of his singing career. Mehdi was greatly passionate about Urdu poetry and that is how he started dabbling with Ghazals. Then he got his first playback break in 1962 for the film Susral and there was no looking back for Mehdi Hassan. His name became synonymous with the art form.
This album contains some of the Mehdi Hassan Classics. Some of them are immortal songs which are being listened by Ghazal lovers for generation after generation. Songs like"Mein Khyal Hoon" and "Ab Ke Hum Bichhre" are evergreen hits which are there in this album. This is a Ghazal listener's holy grail.

He is often mistaken with the legendary Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahib of whom he was a disciple. He is fondly known as chhote Ghulam Ali. Ghulam Ali started his playback career with B.R. Chopra’s film Nikaah which released in 1982. He is quite a popular singer in the entire South Asian Diaspora. In this album Ghulam Ali has sung some very popular Ghazals one of which is “Baharon Ko Chaman Yaad”. This one is a typical soulful Ghulam Ali rendition. This album is a rare collection of ghazals and historically unique because it is Mehdi Hassan Ghulam Ali Live First time.
