  2016 federal election results Divisional profile Divisional contacts           Topics of public interest Senate vacancy Western Australia The AEC has been informed (2 March 2017) that his Honour, Justice Keane of the High Court has provided directions to the AEC specifying how the special count of votes will be conducted.

 The AEC will conduct the special count at the AEC State Office in Perth on Tuesday 7 March 2017.

 Once the special count is completed, the Australian Electoral Officer for Western Australia will provide the result to the High Court of Australia for its consideration. Accordingly, the AEC will be issuing no public announcement of the result of the special count while this matter is before the Court. See the AEC media statement.

 Senate vacancy South Australia A second vacancy exists following the resignation of Mr Bob Day AO as a South Australian Senator on 1 November 2016. This matter is currently the subject of consideration by the High Court of Australia sitting as the Court of Disputed Returns. The Court's consideration of this matter is ongoing.
