Televise

Televise were an electronic shoegazing band formed by former Slowdive and Lowgold drummer Simon Scott in 2004.

They released their debut single "Smile" in December 2004 followed by an EP, the 3-track Outside Out, in April 2005 to a warm reception from music press. In July 2005, the band recorded the soundtrack and an original song for the Australian film, How My Next Door Neighbour Discovered Life On Mars, which received several award nominations.

Debut album "Songs to Sing in A&E" was released soon after which began to see them develop an experimental edge that combines melody, ambience and textures of guitar and electronic noise.

1 May 2007 "Strings and Wires" mini-LP was released on Drifting Falling Records which saw Scott relocate Televise out of London to Cambridgeshire (huntingdon) and begin to operate without the musicians that recorded with him on the debut album. This recording threw Scott into electronic and ambient textured sounds that the British music compared to Fennesz, Tim Hecker and other modern electronic pioneers.

Red carpet

A red carpet is traditionally used to mark the route taken by heads of state on ceremonial and formal occasions, and has in recent decades been extended to use by VIPs and celebrities at formal events.

History

The earliest known reference to walking a red carpet in literature is in the play Agamemnon by Aeschylus, written in 458 BC. When the title character returns from Troy, he is greeted by his vengeful wife Clytemnestra who offers him a red path to walk upon:

Agamemnon, knowing that only gods walk on such luxury, responds with trepidation:

Oriental carpets in Renaissance painting often show rugs and carpets, patterned but with red often the main background colour, laid on the steps to a throne, or on a dais where rulers or sacred figures are placed.

A red carpet was rolled out to a river to welcome the arrival of United States president James Monroe in 1821. In 1902, The New York Central Railroad used plush crimson carpets to direct people as they boarded their 20th Century Limited passenger train. This is believed to be the origin of the phrase "red-carpet treatment". Film premieres are often laid down with red carpets.

Live From the Red Carpet is the pre-show to the major award shows that airs on E! Entertainment Television. Live From the Red Carpet covers celebrity arrivals and gets you right up for a first-row seat to see the stars and all the excitement with live coverage of the fashion, flair, glitz and glamour. The show is hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic. The program airs the day of every major award show (Primetime Emmy Awards, Golden Globe Award, Academy Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards and Grammy Awards) and have three other programs that correspond with it:

In 2005 TV Guide channel begin airing it own red carpet pre-show. The program got Joan Rivers and her daughter Melissa Rivers to host the program for a reported $8 million for three years.

E! News

E! News, previously known as E! News Daily and E! News Live, is the flagship entertainment newscast of the E! network in the United States. Without italics, it is the name of the network's entertainment-news division. The newscast debuted on September 1, 1991, and primarily reports on celebrity news and gossip, along with previews of upcoming films and television shows, regular segments about all of those three subjects, and some news about the industry in general.

Overview

The program first aired on September 1, 1991 and was originally hosted by Dagny Hultgreen. It features stories and gossip about celebrities as well as the film, music, and television industries. Since its launch, it has broadcast under a variety of formats, at one point even airing live during the mid-2000s (at this time, the show was named E! News Live). Starting in 2006, it was hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic. In April 2012, Seacrest was replaced by Jason Kennedy. Rancic temporarily left the show on maternity leave in August 2012 due to the birth of her first son (through a surrogate), leaving others to question if she would return. But Rancic reassured her fans by releasing a statement saying she had just signed a three-year deal with E! News and Fashion Police. During her leave, her anchoring duties were taken over by Catt Sadler. From 2006 until late 2010, The Daily 10, hosted by Sal Masekela, Catt Sadler, and at one point Debbie Matenopoulos, aired following E! News.
