Brother and sister duo Andreas and Annie Martinu are no strangers to Melbourne's cafe scene, having run Ascot Vale's Reverence Specialty Coffee and Tea for four years.

In 2015 they sold the cafe to concentrate on their roastery but a desire to showcase their cafe skills led to them to buy Brunswick's former Jellystone Cafe on Christmas Eve.

The heritage-listed bluestone cottage, now with a new kitchen and communal tables, a fresh lick of paint, plants and low-hanging lights, has become Rogue District.

Leadlight windows look into the kitchen and an open fireplace will keep it cosy in winter. Outside in the courtyard, picnic tables shaded by large umbrellas face Warr Park.

Chef Moon (just Moon, like Prince or Madonna) hails from Korea and his heritage influences the menu.

There's bulgogi in burger form: a beef patty with chilli slaw and kimchi sandwiched inside a charcoal brioche bun; a pile of seasonal greens (for now sugar snap peas, asparagus, kale and spinach) served with a generous dollop of broccoli hummus and grainy toast caters to the vegan and vegetarian demographic.
