Brett, walk us through a day in the life of the artistic director of MTC.
Brett Sheehy: Each day can change seismically from the one before. A few of the givens are that I’m not a great sleeper so I rise fairly early. I go through all overnight emails between 6.30am and 8am, while channel surfing at the same time between the national and international news reports and getting breakfast. I respond to or clear as many emails as possible.
Then I may head straight to the office or directly to the theatre if we are about to open a new show. At the office I take meetings – internal and external – for much of the day, meet with members of the artistic and management teams, to discuss everything from a new play, to a casting idea, to checking marketing collateral, to drafting a pitch for philanthropic support for an artistic initiative.
