Pack a picnic and head to Circular Quay, then walk straight past all the tourist cruises and catch the state-government operated Manly ferry (transportnsw.info). The Sydney ferry system is one of the most beautiful public transport links in the world and locals not only use the ferries to get to work but to travel past “the Heads” – the north and south points that make up the harbour entrance – to Manly to go to the beach.
