Arts as Breadth
The Faculty of Arts have over 30 study areas, including languages, for you to enrich your undergraduate degree through breadth subjects.
Course Structure
The Bachelor of Arts degree is a three-year (full-time) course that offers unique flexibility and a broad range or subjects.
Enrolment and re-enrolment
To be recognised as a current student, you must enrol at the beginning of your course and then re-enrol every year for the duration of your course.
Class registration
Once you’ve enrolled in your subjects, you will be ready to register for classes and choose your timetable. You can only register for classes during the official class registration period.

Advanced standing
If you’re about to undertake a course at the University of Melbourne and have completed previous study at a tertiary level, you may be eligible to receive credit (advanced standing) towards your degree.
Leave of absence: Taking a break from your studies
Unexpected things sometimes happen in life or maybe you even have an itch to travel and see the world before knuckling down. If you wish to take time off from a course that you're currently enrolled in, you may be able to apply for a leave of absence.

Intensive subjects
A list of intensive subjects offered within the Faculty of Arts as well as breadth subjects available to BA students.
Concurrent Diplomas
If you’re about to undertake an undergraduate (bachelors) degree at the University, you may also choose to study a concurrent diploma. A concurrent diploma can enhance your employability and allow you to develop detailed knowledge in an area outside your main area of study.
UoM Overseas Subjects (UMOS)
Faculty of Arts students may wish to study overseas but are either unable or unwilling to commit themselves to a minimum semester-long program. These students may wish to participate in an intensive course run at an overseas institution during The University of Melbourne's winter or summer break.
Work Integrated Learning (Internships)
The Faculty of Arts offers a number of Work Integrated Learning internship programs with government, community, corporate and industry organisations. These specialised study programs serve as a bridge between study and work.
Honours
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) is a specialised year of study for students who have achieved academic excellence in their undergraduate degree. An honours year enables you to extend your knowledge of your area of specialisation.
Peer Assisted Study Sessions
Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) are free weekly study sessions with fellow students led by a high achieving student (PASS Leader) who has successfully completed the subject in a previous year.
Diploma in Languages
The Diploma in Languages is one of five concurrent diplomas offered to students enrolled in a bachelor degree at the University of Melbourne. There are 12 languages available to study.
Cross-institutional study
The Faculty of Arts permits undergraduate students to undertake subjects of equivalent standing for credit at other Australian institutions. It also offers places to applicants from other tertiary institutions.

Policy
Special Consideration
As a student, you may experience extraordinary or unusual circumstances, or ongoing circumstances that adversely affect your academic performance. The University has policies in place to support students who are experiencing academic disadvantage.
Overloading and Over-Enrolment
If you wish to undertake more than a standard study load during any given semester, you must apply to overload. If you’re nearing the end of your course and need more credit points to fill the course requirements, you may be eligible to over-enrol.
Academic Progress Including Unsatisfactory Progress
Keeping track of your academic progress is important during your time here as a student. At the end of each semester you should be aware of how you fared in each subject, and know what to do should any problems arise.
Student Complaints and Grievances
As a student, you may find that you need help to resolve problems that arise during your studies. Whatever the issue, the student complaints and grievances policy and procedure are designed to ensure that the problem is solved in a timely and effective manner.
