A teenage girl has been rushed to hospital after she was hit by a vehicle on one of Brisbane's busiest arterial roads.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the girl was taken to the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in a serious condition.

Police were urging motorists to avoid the area just after 8am after closing inbound lanes of Sandgate Road at Toombul, however the crash was cleared and road reopened by 9.45am.

The Australian Traffic Network said by 10.30am all delays had cleared after stretching several kilometres down Sandgate Road to Northgate during peak congestion.

There were no other injuries and the Forensic Crash Unit was investigating the incident.
