A University Place child molester accused of rebuilding a hard drive packed with child pornography now faces federal charges.

Federal prosecutors in Tacoma claim Jack Blazkiewicz admitted to a corrections officer that he had been running a recovery program on an old hard drive. Blazkiewicz, a former member of Best Buy's Geek Squad, is alleged to have told the officer the drive “possibly” contained child pornography.

Blazkiewicz was under state supervision for a prior child molestation conviction. That apparent disclosure in early February was particularly problematic because Blazkiewicz was only authorized to access one tablet computer monitored by the Department of Corrections.

Investigators searched Blazkiewicz’s home on Feb. 10. According to charging papers, they discovered a large collection of electronics – a desktop computer, several cellular phones and tablet computers, and a collection of storage devices.

Blazkiewicz was jailed for 20 days for the probation violation and had been scheduled for release Wednesday. Instead, he was transferred to federal custody to face child pornography charges filed against him Tuesday.

Prosecutors claim Blazkiewicz offered a handwritten confession.

“I possess many hard drives, some of which may be from the time of when I was accessing child porn,” Blazkiewicz is alleged to have written. “I likely archived the child porn to CD/DVD but should have removed/destroyed those before my conviction.”

Someone claiming to be affiliated with Anonymous compromised a private web hosting service earlier in 2017, taking down more than 10,000 sites on the highly encrypted "dark web," security researchers said.

Blazkiewicz was convicted of child molestation in 2013 after initially facing a child rape charge. Blazkiewicz was caught after repeatedly sexually assaulting a friend’s 6-year-old daughter; he was ultimately sentenced to 20 months in prison for sexually abusing the girl.

Investigators reviewing Blazkiewicz’s electronics found a substantial child pornography collection, according to charging papers.

Blazkiewicz has been charged with possession of child pornography. He remains confined.
