Mitsubishi has revealed details of its sportiest SUV, the Eclipse Cross, ahead of its official debut at next week's Geneva motor show.
The Japanese brand is set to fill a gap in its soft-roader portfolio between the baby ASX and mid-sized Outlander with the Eclipse Cross, which is due to go on-sale in Australia early in 2018.
It has released a host of official images showcasing the car's sharp-edged styling and swoopy-roofed profile, as well as limited technical information that confirms it will be offered with a new-generation 1.5-litre petrol four cylinder engine or the company's existing 2.2-litre turbo diesel.
It has yet to reveal final power outputs for both engines, but said both will feature an electronically-controlled all-wheel drive transmission as well the company's Super All-Wheel Control vehicle dynamics system. The petrol engine will be hooked-up to a new continuously variable transmission (CVT) with eight pre-set gear ratios while the turbo diesel will have an conventional torque-converter automatic with eight gears.
It says a stronger body and a three-point strut tower brace improves overall rigidity and ensures the Eclipse Cross has a dynamic driving character to match its butch exterior styling.
The cockpit also features Mitsubishi's latest infotainment system with a tablet-like multimedia screen featuring Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring and a touch pad mounted in the centre console to control its functions. The Eclipse Cross also features a head-up display.
More details on the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will be revealed at the Geneva motor show next week.
