BMW stolen in violent carjacking seen heading to Melbourne's west

A black BMW stolen in a violent carjacking by two chainsaw and gun-wielding thieves has been spotted heading towards Melbourne's outer-western suburbs.

The BMW was seen on the Princes Freeway at Altona North, heading towards Point Cook, at 4pm on Wednesday.

Nearly 24 hours earlier, two thieves stole the BMW X5 sedan in a frightening carjacking at Reservoir.

The duo blocked the BMW with another car - a Kia - before threatening the three men sitting inside and slashing one of them with the chainsaw about 6.50pm on Tuesday.

The chainsaw was not running at the time.

The three victims ran inside a nearby shop where one of the thieves, who had followed them inside, pulled out a gun and demanded cash, a mobile phone and the keys to the BMW.

The pair then fled in the luxury car, with registration 1DL 2II, along Carson Street.

About 40 minutes later, the BMW was seen at a convenience store on the Western Ring Road at Ardeer.

Police believe the same men might have been involved in another incident on the West Gate Freeway at Brooklyn on Wednesday morning, when the occupant of a black BMW pointed what appeared to be a gun at the driver of another vehicle.

That incident occurred on the freeway just west of Millers Road about 6.50am.

The black BMW was spotted a third time at 4pm on Wednesday, this time on the Princes Freeway, heading towards Point Cook.

The first thief is described as having a solid build, with a short black beard. He was wearing a grey jumper, black shorts and had a black satchel over his shoulder.

His accomplice is described as being in his 30s, with a medium build, blond hair and a fair complexion.

Anyone with information or anyone who sees the stolen BMW is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
