Brie Larson, sexual assault survivor advocate, did not clap for Casey Affleck

Brie Larson declined to clap for Casey Affleck, whose nomination has been shrouded in controversy due to his history of sexual harassment allegations, at Monday's Oscars.

The actress notably withheld her applause while presenting to the Manchester By The Sea actor, who faced sexual harassment allegations in relation to his conduct towards two female co-workers on a film set in 2010.

Oscars 2017: Brie Larson doesn't clap

In what is being described as a form of protest, Brie Larson doesn't clap for Casey Affleck at the Academy Awards.

She had previously not clapped for Affleck while presenting him with his award for Best Actor - Motion Picture Drama at January's Golden Globes.

However, unlike at the Golden Globes, Larson did briefly hug Affleck as she handed over the statuette.

Larson won her 2016 Academy Award for her portrayal of an abused woman in Room. She has since become an advocate for sexual assault survivors.

Affleck, the younger brother of fellow actor Ben, was accused of harassing two women during the production of I'm Still Here, a mockumentary starring Joaquin Phoenix which Affleck directed.

The women, the film's director of photography and a producer, alleged Affleck had made lewd comments and unwanted sexual advances towards them while on set. They also alleged Affleck had crawled into one of the women's beds while they were sleeping.

The matter settled out of court, and Affleck is not allowed to comment on the incidents under the terms of the settlement.

Speaking to the New York Times last year, the actor made a rare, and admittedly obscure, comment on the case.

"It was settled to the satisfaction of all. I was hurt and upset - I am sure all were - but I am over it," Affleck told the publication by email. "It was an unfortunate situation - mostly for the innocent bystanders of the families of those involved."

It has become a tradition during awards season for last year's Best Actress winner to present the award for Best Actor.

As a result, Larson has been the person tasked with presenting Affleck's category at a number of events, however, of those events, Affleck was only announced the winner at the Globes and the Oscars.

He also won the BAFTA for Best Leading Actor, however that award was presented by Penelope Cruz (who did clap).

Twitter users were quick to point out that Larson had once again been tasked with presenting to Affleck and had, once again, not seemed very happy about it.
