Carignan quits as Senate opposition chief

Conservative Senator Claude Carignan announced Tuesday afternoon that he’s resigning his position as opposition leader in the Senate, saying this is a “good time” to turn over the reins since there will be a new leader of the party soon.

“The Party will soon have a new leader, and changes will continue in the Senate. In this perspective, I think that it is a good thing for the Caucus to renew its leadership,” said Carignan in a release.
