A 15-year-old boy has become the third youth arrested over the violent robbery of an 87-year-old woman in Alice Springs.

The boy from Alice Springs is the latest teen to be charged in relation to the crime on February 17 that shocked the town, when the elderly woman was robbed and had a tooth broken off when she was struck in the face with a golf club in her bedroom.

It was the second time her home had been targeted in a week, with thieves making off with several items.

Despite originally saying two offenders were involved in the crime, police later said six people may have been involved.

The latest teen accused of being involved is facing 25 charges, including aggravated robbery and aggravated unlawful entry.

In addition to the attack on the elderly woman, police alleged the teenager was involved in five break-ins at businesses and an incident on Friday last week when a police vehicle was damaged when someone jumped on the windscreen.

The robbery of the elderly woman sparked condemnation on social media, with scores of people venting their anger and several offering to help the woman.

NT Police Commissioner Reece Kershaw recently said there had been a rise in the number of offences committed by young people in the last six months, with school holidays possibly playing a role.

"It is an increase from the previous years," Commissioner Kershaw said.
