Investigation underway as PNG police and military clash in another armed confrontation

Papua New Guinea police are investigating yet another confrontation between the country's two armed forces, which saw gun shots fired early on New Year's Day outside a suburban police station in the capital Port Moresby.

Local media reports that police officers, including the head of the National Capital District police, were assaulted at the Boroko police station.

Former PNG Defence Force commander, Jerry Singirok, says the confrontation shows a clear breakdown in discipline for both forces and he warns it is the beginning of a dangerous trend.
