Authorities are looking for a man who ran over and killed a car owner while car prowling in Sammamish Wednesday afternoon, according to the King County Sheriff's Office.

The Seattle Police Department reported Wednesday evening that the victim was the son of a Seattle police officer but did not identify either the victim or the his father.

Police received a call about 2:30 p.m. of a shooting at Beaver Lake Park in the 2500 block of 244th Avenue Southeast, reports say. They arrived to find a man lying on the ground of the parking lot who had been run over by a car.

The man and his girlfriend were reportedly walking their dog in the park when they spotted someone breaking into their car. The car owner ran to his vehicle and confronted the prowler, but the suspect entered another vehicle and tried to run him over, according to the Sheriff's Office. The victim fired shots at the driver but the suspect ran him over and killed him before driving away.

The victim was declared dead at the scene.

The suspect vehicle was described as a gold or tan SUV. No suspect description is available.
