An officer-involved shooting Monday morning in Lynnwood prompted police to close state Route 99 there.

The shooting occurred just before 10 a.m. in the 19200 block of SR-99.

Someone at a business along SR-99 called 911 reporting a man acting yelling inside the business, according to a statement from the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response (SMART) team.

Three Lynnwood Police Department officers found the man, who ran out into the highway "several times" while cops tried to calm him, reports indicate. One officer reported that the man was armed with a knife or shank and that he approached officers.

Though cops gave verbal commands to de-escalate the situation, the man reportedly "continued to advance," according to the SMART Team.

One of the officers apparently shot at the man about 9:48 a.m. Officers requested aid and attempted CPR to revive the man, but he was declared dead at the scene. Authorities recovered a blade from him.

Cops believe the man was in his 20s. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner will identify him.

The officer who reportedly fired the gun is a three-year veteran of the Lynnwood Police Department.

SR-99 between 196th St. Southwest and 188th St. Southwest will be closed for several hours for the investigation, possibly through evening commute times, authorities say.

The SMART Team is a team of detectives from various Snohomish County law enforcement agencies who respond to and investigate police use of force incidents.
