A 27-year-old man is in hospital and a 22-year-old is in custody following a stabbing in downtown Montreal on Saturday night.

The incident happened near the intersection of Berri Street and De Maisonneuve Boulevard at around 8 p.m., said Montreal police Const. Benoit Boisselle.

The 27-year-old man remains in hospital with "major injuries" to his upper body but is expected to survive.

The suspect was arrested shortly after 3 a.m. this morning after interviews with witnesses.
