Queensland weather: Week of rain for south-east with falls of up to 100mm

South-east Queensland can say goodbye to burned lawns and wilting plants, with a week of rain arriving on Sunday.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a "pattern change" with wet weather set to hang around until at least the end of next weekend.

Meteorologist Dean Narramore said an upper low-pressure system would move over the region late on Sunday and into Monday morning, combining with moisture moving inland from the sea.

The result will be widespread showers across the south-east along with isolated thunderstorms for at least the next week. Coastal areas further north can also expect rain.

The wet weather will hit in two parts. It should arrive by Monday morning and continue into Wednesday, then break for Thursday before returning throughout the weekend.

Mr Narramore said some areas would get more rain than others as a result of the "scattered activity", however all of the south-east should see some rain over the course of the week.

Generally, there would be falls between 20 and 40 millimetres, with isolated areas receiving up to 100 millimetres.

Some of the wet weather arrived early, with the Sunshine Coast receiving less than 10 millimetres on Sunday morning. The dark clouds then reached the northern suburbs of Brisbane by the afternoon.
