Minister of Interior

Karim Sinjari

Mr. Karim Sinjari was appointed as Minister for the Interior May 2006. He was reappointed in the six cabinet on 28 October 2009 following the July 2009 Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections, and in the seventh cabinet, on 5 April 2012. 
Mr. Sinjari has served as Interior Minister in the Kurdistan Region since 2001. Born in Shingal (Sinjar) in 1950, he graduated with a degree in law from Baghdad University in 1971. He practiced as a lawyer in Baghdad from 1973 and joined the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). He then joined the Peshmerga forces and was appointed to the KDP’s provisional leadership (1976-1980). 
Mr. Sinjari was exiled in Sweden for eight years (1980-1988) and then returned to Kurdistan as head of the KDP’s security service. After the first Kurdistan general elections of 1992, he was appointed Director General of the Kurdistan Region’s security service (1993). In 2001 he was appointed Interior Minister in the KRG's Erbil and Dohuk administration, and elected to the central committee of the KDP. He was later appointed to the party's Politburo.  Mr. Sinjari speaks Kurdish, Swedish, English, Arabic and Persian. He is married with three children.

 

Director General

Hoshang Mohamed Abdulrahman

Mr. Hoshang Mohamed Abdulrahman was appointed as the Director General of the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC) at the KRG’s Ministry of Interior in May 2015. 

Mr. Abdulrahman was tasked as the KRG’s team leader to establish the KRG’s first Crisis Response and Management Centre in 2014, which later the Centre is incepted as Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC) and officially launched in May 2015.

He previously served as the Senior Director for the International Relations Directorate at the KRG’s Department of Foreign Relations from 2007 to 2014. Mr. Abdulrahman also worked at the KRG’s Council of Ministers as liaison officer from 2006 to 2007. 

Mr. Abdulrahman earned undergraduate degree at the University of Salahaddin in English literature in Erbil and his master degree of the Public Policy and Program Management at the School of International Development, Bradford University, in the United Kingdom. He is awarded an executive certificate of completion for the Leadership in Crisis at Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government. He has participated in many executive programs and courses. 

He speaks Kurdish, English, and basic Arabic. He is born in Rawanduz, Erbil Province, Kurdistan Region-Iraq in 1978. He is married and has a daughter and two sons. Currently, he lives with his wife and their children in Erbil.

 

Director of Crisis Response and Management

Mariwan Hassan

Mr. Mariwan Hassan Mustafa, holds master degree in sociology at the department of Sociology in the Mansurah University- Republic of Egypt 2014. Beside 8 years of experience in working with different organizations, he has officially started working at the General Directorate of Violence against Women at the Ministry of Interior as director awareness and guidance women’s rights in 2009-2014.  

Later, he moved to the JCC and appointed as Director of crisis response and management at Joint Crisis Coordination Centre in 2014.

Mr. Mariwan Mustafa has attended various training courses, conferences and forums, both as participant and organizer. He has run many seminars and open discussions as a trainer as well. He has received several letters of appreciation for his hard-working and dedication, from the government and none government organizations.

He lives with his wife in Erbil, and has one child.

 

Director of Information Management and Data Exchange

Ali Ahmed

Mr. Ali AHMED has graduated in College of English Language and Literature at the University of Sulaymaniyah, July 2010. After that, he worked at the  non-governmental organizations until the end of 2012.

Mr. AHMED has joined the Academic College of Police – Erbil. He graduated and carrying a Police Second Lieutenant rank in the Ministry of Interior (MOI). He is promoted to the First Lieutenant Rank in July 2016.

In the beginning of 2016, Mr. AHMED is seconded to the Join Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC) and appointed as Director of the Information Management and Data Exchange.

He speaks Kurdish, English, and Arabic.

Born in Erbil Province, Kurdistan Region-Iraq in 1988. He is married and has a child.

 

Director of Administration and Finance

Sarhad Omer

Mr. Sarhad Omar Mohammed Born in Koya town, Erbil Province, Kurdistan Region-Iraq in 1982. He lives in Erbil.

He has graduated from University of Salahaddin-Erbil/ College of Languages/ English Language from 2005. He then received his master degree of Public Policy and Management at the School of Korean Development Institute (KDI), in Seoul, South Korea from 2011.

Mr. Mohammed worked as translator and interpreter at the Zaytun Division, Republic of South Korea Army in Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq from 2005 to 2008.

 He also worked for Independent High Electoral Commission, Erbil Office, Kurdistan Region, Iraq from 2009 to 2010. He employed as translator and interpreter at the KRG Ministry of Finance and Economy from 2010 to 2014.

He then moved to the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC) and appointed as Director of Administration and Finance in October 2015.

He has involved in many courses and trainings. He speaks Kurdish, English, and conversational Arabic.
