Tributes have flowed on social media for a young couple killed in a horrific car crash north of Brisbane on Saturday morning.
Sarah Mitchell, 21, and her boyfriend 20-year-old Jordan Whittle were killed when the car she was driving left Old Bay Road at Deception Bay and hit a power pole.
The accident happened just before 3.30am and left the vehicle completely wrapped around the power pole.
It has been reported the couple were on their way home from Mr Whittle's 21st birthday party at the time of the crash and friends had heard him begging Ms Mitchell not to get behind the wheel before they left.
Local resident Andre Meerten heard the incident unfold from his home.
"I was wide awake this morning at 3.15am when I heard this car loose (sic) traction," he wrote on Facebook.
"Then heard the engine at full revs because it was airbourne (sic) then unfortunately heard the loud abrubt (sic) thud as it hit the power pole.
"When I heard it I knew it was bad."
Ms Mitchell's sister Emma Lander posted an emotional tribute on Facebook soon after the crash.
