Police are soon to receive CCTV footage of bus driver being punched to the ground by two drunks at a bus stop at Mt Gravatt on Friday night.

That footage will help police locate the two men who attacked the 42-year-old bus driver who was attacked near the Klump Road bus stop at Mt Gravatt around 9pm on Friday.

The Brisbane bus driver named, Steve, was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital on Friday and remained there on Saturday for treatment, according to his two sons, Nine News said on Saturday.

A police spokeswoman said police were now interviewing witnesses to the assault and hoped to trace the two men who will be identified using either the CCTV footage from the bus stop, or from the bus itself.

"Those witnesses said they punched him to the ground," the spokeswoman said.

"They punched out on the platform and punched him while he was on the ground until another witness intervened."
