Our Programs

Gender and ICT

The Gender and ICT Program focuses on the intersection between ICT and gender rights and issues, including women's use and access of ICTs and tech-related gender-based violence.

Privacy and Surveillance

FMA's Privacy Program works to advocate the right to privacy of citizens, which includes the right against unlawful surveillance. FMA conducts research and monitors policy developments related to privacy rights not only in the Philippines, but in a global context as well.

Internet Rights

As internet use continues to play an important role in Philippine society, FMA works to ensure that Philippine internet governance is inclusive, democratic, and rights-based. The Internet Rights Program therefore engages in issues such as meaningful access and free expression in the internet.

Founded in 1987, the Foundation for Media Alternatives (FMA) assists citizens and communities – especially civil society organizations (CSOs) and other disadvantaged sectors – in their strategic and appropriate use of information and communications technologies (ICTs) for democratization and popular empowerment.

Mission

A vibrant and socially progressive Philippines and global community composed of and nurtured by the interaction of informed citizens and empowered communities promoting the realization of human/communication rights in information societies towards equitable and sustainable human development.

Vision

FMA exists to assist civil society organizations  and other development stakeholders (including government) in promoting and defending their right to information and communication by advocating for openness in the governance of information societies, working for human rights in digital environments, and ensuring strategic access and responsible use of ICTs—while optimizing such technologies for sustainable development, and addressing gender concerns in the information society.
