Melody

A melody (from Greek μελῳδία, melōidía, "singing, chanting"), also tune, voice, or line, is a linear succession of musical tones that the listener perceives as a single entity. In its most literal sense, a melody is a combination of pitch and rhythm, while more figuratively, the term can include successions of other musical elements such as tonal color. It may be considered the foreground to the background accompaniment. A line or part need not be a foreground melody.

Melodies often consist of one or more musical phrases or motifs, and are usually repeated throughout a composition in various forms. Melodies may also be described by their melodic motion or the pitches or the intervals between pitches (predominantly conjunct or disjunct or with further restrictions), pitch range, tension and release, continuity and coherence, cadence, and shape.

Elements

Given the many and varied elements and styles of melody "many extant explanations [of melody] confine us to specific stylistic models, and they are too exclusive." Paul Narveson claimed in 1984 that more than three-quarters of melodic topics had not been explored thoroughly.

Oliver Heldens

Oliver Heldens (born Olivier Heldens; February 1, 1995) is a Dutch electronic music producer from Rotterdam in the Netherlands. His 2013 song, "Gecko", caught the attention of Tiësto, who signed him to his label; Musical Freedom and released the track with vocals from British singer Becky Hill on June 23, 2014. Heldens also has a weekly podcast titled Heldeep Radio. His songs "Gecko (Overdrive)", "Last All Night (Koala)" and his remix of Dr Kucho!'s "Can't Stop Playing" charted as top 5 singles in the UK, reaching 1st, 5th and 4th position respectively. In 2015, he began producing bass house songs under the alias 'HI-LO', which comes from 'Oli H' in reversed form. Under his alias, Heldens produced three singles titled "Crank It Up", "Renegade Mastah" and "Wappy Flirt", releasing the latter two on his label Heldeep Records.

Career

2013–present: Breakthrough

Heldens began his professional music career when he signed to Spinnin' Records in 2013. His first releases on the label include "Stinger" and "Thumper" which features DJ Jacob van Hage. Later collaborations include "Panther" with 'Robby East' which was released on the Oxygen label on the December 2, 2013. The single "Gecko" was released in the same month on Tiesto's Musical Freedom record label. The song peaked at number 1 on the DMC Magazine Buzz Chart and was named "Essential New Tune" by BBC's Pete Tong on January 31, 2014.

Steve Aoki

Steven Hiroyuki "Steve" Aoki (born November 30, 1977) is an American electro house musician, record producer, and music executive. In 2012 Pollstar designated Aoki as the highest grossing dance artist in North America from tours. He has collaborated with producers and vocalists such as will.i.am, Afrojack, LMFAO, Iggy Azalea, Lil Jon, and Laidback Luke, and is known for his remixes of artists such as Kid Cudi.

Aoki has released several Billboard-charting studio albums as well, notably Wonderland, which was nominated for Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronica Album in 2013. The first part of Aoki's two-part album, Neon Future I, was released on September 30, 2014, and reached No. 1 on Dance/Electronic Albums in the United States. The second album, Neon Future II, features artists such as Snoop Lion and Rivers Cuomo, and in Belgium it reached No. 93 on the Ultratop 200 Albums chart.

The 2015 horror film The Hive features tracks from the album Neon Future by Aoki, who created the soundtrack and also serves as an executive producer. Aoki is also the central character in the upcoming documentary I'll Sleep When I'm Dead. He is the founder of the Steve Aoki Charitable Fund, which raises money for global humanitarian relief organizations.

Will Derby is a dashing vice-consul from the United States Embassy in Manila. He grew up in pre-dominantly white North Dakota where very few Filipinos live. But Will is not an American. He's a Filipino adopted by an old American couple. He would have avoided being posted in the Philippines, a place he doesn't like very much, if he could. But a promise to his mother to search for his real parents made him not to. Will has always lived a life of incompleteness and unbelongingness. Even his relationships are fleeting until he meets Sally. Sally is only forced to apply for a US Visa because her sick mom who refuses to come home needs care. So for Sally, how could Mr. Derby think she's another TNT when she never ever dreamed of going to the land of milk and honey?! She is definitely insulted. And too bad she initially thought he's gorgeous. To make things worse, Will decides to finally try searching for his parents. He goes to the NSO to look for his original birth certificate. Fate plays a trick and makes Sally and Will meet again. She seeks revenge and makes him wait all afternoon for his document. But her ploy fires back as her boss catches her. Now, she's forced to help him. After giving it some thought, Sally sees the opportunity to use Will to finally get a visa. She goes out of her way to go with him to places, from the rugged Tondo to a town fiesta in Pampanga, just to find his parents. As they inch nearer and nearer to where his parents are, they also get closer and closer to each other. And after several experiences together, from getting caught by the police in a gambling house to the more intimate fiesta plaza dance, their initial attraction becomes real, though unconfessed, love. Will Mr. Derby finally discover where his real parents are? And with his posting in Manila about to end, will he find another reason to stay? Will there be a chance for Sally and Will's Love to bloom? And if there is, will they have the courage to admit it's each other that they need? You Are The One explores the insanities that comes with love, the impossibilities to be hurdled to make love happen and the self-confidence we all need to make love work.
