Policy

The Australian Press Council undertakes research, consultation, policy development and advocacy on a range of issues relating especially to the public's access to information and freedom of expression, whether directly or though the media.

The Council's policies and activities in this area are publicised through:

• formal statements and submissions by the Council (including submissions to parliamentary committees, commissions and other public bodies);
• the Charter of Press Freedom, issued in 2003;
• other materials, including media comment, research reports, issues papers and summaries of Round Tables or other consultations.
