Q: In regards to the Q&A a few weeks back about tyres losing pressure, nitrogen wasn't mentioned. Is nitrogen a better option or is it not worth while?
Cheers, Gene
A: Is nitrogen worth the cost? Retailers will often charge up to $40 for a fill of nitrogen, whereas air is free. The key to nitrogen is that it is a more stable gas and therefore maintains consistent pressure for longer than air does. So if you don't check your pressures very regularly, then nitrogen could be a good solution. It's also better if you're doing track days too. As with everything, it's worth trying to drive a bargain with the retailer, especially if you're purchasing new tyres, so why not ask that they be filled with nitrogen for free. Regardless, even if you have nitrogen in your tyres they still need regular checks, at least once a month. Be more vigilant in checking your tyre pressures and it won't cost you a cent to fill the tyres with air. A 10-minute check could save you money on tyre wear, and potentially save your life.

WHAT cost? If you buy your tyres from Costco the nitrogen fill and refills are free.
