Toyota's Safe & Savvy tips for women

Toyota is encouraging women to feel more confident about their cars via a program it's calling Safe & Savvy.

Launched this week, the program includes a series of free car "know-how" nights giving basic car maintenance and automotive information aimed at a primarily female audience. The information nights are held at Toyota dealerships around the country.

Toyota says the Safe & Savvy program is an extension of its Toyota Avenue (the name comes from the 'phone number ... which is below). And, basically, it's an initiative designed to provide women with automotive advice.

Safe & Savvy night attendees will be shown how to carry out regular engine bay inspections and learn some vehicle maintenance basics.

Toyota says its dealers will invite guest speakers to the sessions to discuss driver safety, first aid and what to do if involved in a car accident, or to offer tips about road rules and holiday driving.

Toyotas Andrew Phillips said the Safe & Savvy sessions are designed to provide an opportunity for those who were not necessarily mechanically aware -- or who were new owners -- to find out what makes their car work and how to look after it.

"We want to help drivers feel confident and safe in their vehicles at all times, and to know what to ask or expect when they bring their cars to a dealership for a service," he said.
