Fairfax Media Shines for Global Innovation and Digital Engagement

May 14, 2015

Fairfax Media has been recognised with two International News Media Association (INMA) awards, announced overnight at the INMA World Congress in New York.

Fairfax’s native advertising product Brand Discover was one of seven Global Innovation Award regional winners taking home the Best in Asia/ Pacific category, while Traveller.com.au won third place for Best Idea to Grow Digital Audience or Engagement for its “Travel Bug” campaign at the INMA Awards.

The global INMA Awards competition is the news media industry’s premier barometer for growing audience, revenue and brand across platforms. Overall, 30 first place awards were presented to 26 media companies.

The second annual INMA Global Innovation Award competition rewards media company programs that encourage ‘ideation and incubation, change the corporate culture, attract young talent and incentivise innovation mindsets’.

Fairfax Media Custom Solutions Commercial Manager Felix Krueger said: “Brand Discover was created to meet the demand for digital content marketing. It has been very successful for Fairfax in attracting incremental revenue and creating a new product stream that leverages what we do best: content. Advertisers now have a new way to reach and engage customers.

“The Travel Bug” campaign was created when the new Traveller.com.au website launched in September 2014, aimed at engaging consumers with the new site and encouraging repeat visitation. The promotion introduced a ‘digital scavenger hunt’ designed to drive users to trial Traveller.com.au and strengthen their understanding of the product offering.”

Fairfax Media Director, Audience Engagement Briony Amey said: “The Travel Bug competition was a great success for Traveller.com.au generating more than 45,000 visits to the site. Over the duration of the competition, page views were also considerably higher than the four weeks prior with engagement on site increasing by almost 10% month on month.”

The awards were announced at the Edison Ballroom at New York’s Times Square before an audience of 300 media executives. This year’s awards attracted 578 entries from 38 countries.
