Roberto Baggio[edit]

Hi, it seems that you are editing this page a lot. Maybe we can write about his big popularity in Japan. Read this: http://pt.scribd.com/doc/52399511/Foreign-Celebrities-in-Japan "5.1 Codino Divino". Also, if you don't know, Roberto Baggio also "endorsed" the Japanese version of this game: Let's Make a Soccer Team!. You can see some flyers here: http://www.giantbomb.com/roberto-baggio/94-22220/ --Hydao (talk) 23:27, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Honours - Martín Cáceres[edit]

Hello from Portugal,

like you did in this player: the fourth place in any competition, club or country, is not an honour. Please don't insert it again OK?

Thank you --AL (talk) 22:15, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

September 2014[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions. Please mark your edits as "minor" only if they are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. QED237 (talk) 22:38, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

  • In Thiago Motta, I did not remove anything that was of encyclopedic value, I merely relocated it. What I removed was your additions of the honours turned into storyline, that was not needed, if we read the honours that will be the same thing. I only wanted to help. I also corrected many redirects in your pic additions, you reverted me even though my captions were the correct ones.

I apologize if you think my tone was demeaning, that was not my intention but I clearly exaggerated, stupid of me. Another thing: just because I am an unregistered user does not mean I am not here to contribute OK, and for eight years I had an account, I was user ALWAYS LEARNING.--84.90.219.128 (talk) 01:28, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

  • If you want we can reach a compromise, maybe relocate that intro bit to the style of play section you created. However, please don't reinsert, at the end of each sub-section, the full honours that he won, that is what we have the proper HONOURS section for; and by the way, I am Portuguese yes, but Messi is also my favourite player so I have nothing against you or your account/work.

Attentively --84.90.219.128 (talk) 18:47, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

OK I will take care of that, please don't edit there in the next hour to avoid edit conflicts. Then, after I am done, tell me your opinion. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 04:35, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Done, you can have a look when you want, I only had to fix the language somehow, and see which refs belonged better in STYLE OF PLAY and which in intro. Again, I apologize for my previous exaggerated summary, won't happen again --84.90.219.128 (talk) 04:45, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Descriptive opinions on football bios[edit]

Hi there. Your additions are good and very informative, however descriptive opinions such as "extraordinary", "complete", "excellent"...these are terms that are not encyclopaedic and also breach NPOV. Instead of saying he is renowned for his "excellent" close ball control, just state he is renowned for his close ball control. Always try to use neutral terms and avoid opinions. Cheers--Carlos Rojas77 (talk) 28:27, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Of course I dont mind (this is wikipedia you are free to edit as you please). The George Weah article I forgot to get back to so yeah go ahead and edit away. Your edits provide really good information, it's just trying to avoid the kind of words I mentioned....however using such words when quoting someone is fine (for example...when Ibrahimovic called Ronaldo "complete". Cheers --Carlos Rojas77 (talk) 06:27, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
Another tip. Try to keep detail to a minimum. If it becomes too detailed it can be hard to read (the Roberto Baggio article has way too much detail for example). Also avoid using the same reference many times (the Ronaldo Evolution source you used five or six times...it only needs to get used once). Also try to use English sources on English Wikipedia when possible. You also dont need so many sources,..often one will do at the end of a sentence. Take a look at the edit I made on Cristiano Ronaldo to see what I'm saying. It was great material you added, I just had to cut it down in size and detail. Cheers.--Carlos Rojas77 (talk) 19:04, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

Detail on football bios[edit]

Hi. I see the Baggio article was tagged for being too long. Your information is very good as I said before (like what you did to the Playmaker article), but try to keep detail to a minimum. Describing the qualities of a player for example should be done in very few words...example: "XXXX is renowned for his vision, control and technical ability"...that should be about it. Stick to the main qualities...adding on more words makes it clustered and too detailed, and often repetitive. The lead in Baggio is fine as I kept it trimmed...the rest of the article could almost be cut in half. Game details trimmed, attributes trimmed. The actual information is accurate, but just too many words and too detailed. Cheers.--Carlos Rojas77 (talk) 01:34, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Ballon D'or[edit]

The previous incarnation of the award, also known as the European footballer of the year, is not the World player of the year. To mix the two is akin to doing so with African footballer of the year, or South American footballer of the year. Ronaldo has only ever been named European player of the year once, before tha award became defunct. Only Cruyff, Platini and Van Basten won the Ballon Dor three times. The BBC has correctly stated thaf FIFA named Ronaldo world player of the year three times. The anomaly lies with the name Ballon D'or being used for what is a different award.--Carlos Rojas77 (talk) 01:23, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

You sent me the FIFA link ..."Cristiano Ronaldo has won the FIFA Ballon d’Or for the best player in the world for the third time following previous wins in 2008 and 2013.". http://www.fifa.com/ballon-dor/news/y=2015/m=1/news=ronaldo-kessler-low-and-kellermann-triumph-at-fifa-ballon-d-or-2014-2505871.html This is exactly right. He has been named world player of the year three times, and European player of the year once. Essentially the European player award has been scrapped, and the FIFA award for world player of the year has continued. If FIFA says anything to the contrary (and it's their award) then that's different. They are the authority on this not UEFA or any other outlet.--Carlos Rojas77 (talk) 01:39, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
Only FIFA has authority on their own award. The European player of the year Ballon D'or was always an anomaly and is defunct. FIFA has said nothing about Cruyff, Platini and Van Basten because they were three time European players of the year. "Owen is European Footballer of the Year". Owen was never world player of the year. The FIFA World player of the year, and the FIFA Ballon D'or...are one and the same, awarded by FIFA to the world player of the year.--Carlos Rojas77 (talk) 02:01, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
This now totally confirms my pont. http://m.fifa.com/ballon-dor/history/index.html Look at 2001...FIGO....the 2001 FIFA World Player of the year (now under the new FIFA Balon D'or banner)....there is no sign of the 2001 European player of the year Balon Dor winner Michael Owen. Thank you for these links by the way. Only FIFA has authority over this, and this list confirms it.--Carlos Rojas77 (talk) 02:09, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
You're not incorrect. I understand the anomaly that exists due to the ambiguity and confusion of the old European player of the year Ballon D'or. This new link, http://www.fifa.com/ballon-dor/history/index.html it states France Football Balon D'or....separate from all the FIFA Balon D'or (which has under Its name all the FIFA World player of the year winners). There is no ambiguity with the FIFA award for World player of the year (from 1991 to 2014). Cheers.--Carlos Rojas77 (talk) 03:46, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 15[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Dino Baggio, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page 1992 Olympic Games (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Another tip on bios[edit]

Hi. I'm assuming your Italian?...in the 1990s i probably watched Italian football more than English football. Serie A games on a Sunday...unmissable. Your English is excellent btw. When using the same reference more than once, you only need to put the reference into the article once (and then link it to the other times it is used.....see my edit on the Ronaldinho page). Try avoid using the word "many" (it's descriptive...basically an unknown number). Plus when possible, put the references at the end of the sentence (as opposed to using a reference after each small point in the middle of a sentence) as its a lot easier to read and it flows better. Your information is correct as always, my only real advice is just think "less is more". For example, If ten words can be written in five words. Less words, less references, makes the point clear, concise, and easy for the reader. Cheers.--Carlos Rojas77 (talk) 02:11, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Buffon[edit]

Hi there. Just on the Buffon article, it needs a lot of detail removed. It's already far too long with far too many details. The actual information is correct (everything you ever add is correct), the only thing is it needs fewer words. The Baggio article is also too long and needs to be chopped in half, but I don't have enough time at the minute to go through it. If you can see any parts where you can take out too much detail that would be great. Cheers.--Carlos Rojas77 (talk) 20:01, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

  • Hello again from Portugal. Like said above by Mr. Rojas, please try to cut down on the words of the "style of play" section, I remember back in the day (I think it was Fernando Llorente) where you wrote "He is a striker with the ability to score goals", needless overinfo, he's a STRIKER, he SCORES goals.

Also, can you please adding all the fields in the refs you add? You only add the source (URL field), the title and the accessdate, never the trans_title (translation of foreign refs, when needed), the publisher (site, newspaper or club web from where the news comes) or the date (date of the publication).

Thanks, happy editing --84.90.219.128 (talk) 20:02, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

  • I will help you any way I can, don't hesitate to ask. Best wishes also --84.90.219.128 (talk) 18:50, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Same thing happened again in Giuseppe Bergomi (refs are now better displayed, but we don't need a WEBSITE field, with PUBLISHER it's enough), many (many) of the things you wrote there actually don't belong in Bergomi's article, but in Italy's. I tried to compose it the best I could. Still too much overdetail, and we don't write stuff like "unfortunately Italy was eliminated" in an encyclopedia.

Cheers --84.90.219.128 (talk) 01:07, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

  • Yes I know you are trying your best, not thinking poorly of you by any means. I repeat, when you need help, please message me or go to WP:FOOTY (the WP football community), someone will surely help you with any difficulty you may have. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 02:18, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

Again the same cleanup in Simone Pepe - IRRELEVANT to his injury problems that Juventus won this or that title, stuff that belongs in Juventus' article and not Pepe's, etc, etc. I am doubting whether to do the same in Mauro Tassotti or not, but maybe what will happen is I will give up editing Italian players, this is very tiresome. And you say in Nicola Legrottaglie he will do an occasional mistake in marking? Who doesn't?

Happy editing --84.90.219.128 (talk) 00:49, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

More: we don't use the small dashes for game results ("-"), but these ("–"), and the order of fields in the references is URL/TITLE/TRANS_TITLE (if needed)/PUBLISHER/LANGUAGE (if needed)/DATE/ACCESSDATE. Last (but not least), at the start of each of each paragraph we start out with the person's name, then "he" or "the player" suffices OK? --84.90.219.128 (talk) 01:37, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

After the first "ref" that precedes the various fields of a reference, you write "name" followed by "=" and whichever words you choose, then repeat those words everytime you want to insert the same reference, followed by and "/" See my changes in S. Pepe and Bergomi, lots of examples there. It would look something like this: "ref name=Goal" followed by the various fields (title, trans_title, publisher, etc) then everytime you repeat the same source, "ref name=Goal/", and you don't need the rest of the fields for the repetitions.

Hopefully I explained myself correctly, cheers --84.90.219.128 (talk) 22:19, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Let's try it again? Let's! Fields are URL/TITLE/TRANS_TITLE (if needed)/PUBLISHER/LANGUAGE (if needed)/DATE/ACCESSDATE, not URL/TITLE/TRANS_TITLE/WEBSITE/PUBLISHER/LANGUAGE/DATE/ACCESSDATE. Capisce? Grazie, ciao. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 20:33, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

I hope you don't think I was aggressive, never my intention :) --84.90.219.128 (talk) 18:21, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

Reference errors on 26 April[edit]

Hello, I'm ReferenceBot. I have automatically detected that an edit performed by you may have introduced errors in referencing. It is as follows:

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, ReferenceBot (talk) 00:27, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

Bits and pieces (first part - and eventually second)[edit]

Right now I have to leave the computer for a while, but I begin by saying I exaggerated in Puyol's edit summary, what happened was the following: I duly rephrased the wording (this has been discussed at length already) but profited from ALL the references you added, you reinstated the excessive wording. But my summary was clearly over the top, apologies are in order.

I'll write some more still today, after I return to the computer and read your message better. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 20:49, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

Back! 1 - I don't understand what is the problem with the current style of play section of Puyol, it's trimmed down in language and content. What exactly do you have in mind as far as adding stuff that will actually improve the section? 2 - I used the word "rubbish" regarding you(r work)? I do admit using "mess" (really not very cool either, I admit), but "rubbish"? If I did, i was definitely thinking of something else (maybe "fighting" a vandal shortly before or similar) and got it wrong in my mind, that is not what I think of your work, I think it is of a very good caliber, indeed, not patronizing you (and when I use "mess" is because of the display of refs and the excessive wording, just that). I'd like to see the article where I wrote that ("rubbish"), but please accept my sincere apologies again (and again, and again).

The Serie A used to be a safe haven for national players, now it's the same as all the other major leagues with maybe the exception of La Liga (not counting Barcelona, Real and Atlético of course), Fiorentina often play with ZERO Italians, Napoli with ONE or ZERO, Roma fielded one or two on some matches, I think Catania was the first team to field 11 foreigners in one Italian top division match, last year, served them right (relegation). For all that, I say two things: Forza Juve and grazie Empoli!

Best regards, ciao e scusa un'altra volta --84.90.219.128 (talk) 22:12, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

  • No man, not saying I thought you were a vandal when I used those words, I meant maybe I was a bit heated after confronting a vandal or a troll, then unduly exaggerated on the summary because my mind was somewhere else. But I will most definitely try to refrain in the future (my unmedicated bipolar condition must not be an excuse for everything), and please accept my renewed apologies.

OK, the Puyol STYLE OF PLAY section does not need that much altering, since like I said I profited from all the refs you added. Just add the "commanding in the air" bit where it suits better in the storyline. As far as Nuno Gomes go, due changes already made. It's really no big beal the order because, no matter how you leave them in the edit mode, they'll display always in the same fashion. It's just me, being obsessive-compulsive (if the order is not correct, i'll jump right in), so if you could accommodate I'd really appreciate. If not, no worries.

Happy weekend, ciao --84.90.219.128 (talk) 14:09, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

I think it's OK now, I only reworded it slightly (needless to say "as a defender") and altered the tense of some paragraphs (past tense needed as he is retired now). Best also --84.90.219.128 (talk) 18:31, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Congratulations...[edit]

...on the cup final win of your team! I liked especially that Matri scored the winning goal, I feel the lad still has some football in him.

Best regards, dal Portogallo --84.90.219.128 (talk) 21:20, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

Busquets[edit]

Thank you for writing me , you never bother me , I really didn't mean it as to bother you also :) first of all i really googled before i removed if there is another link to add for this , but i really couldn't find ..the problem with the link it is not like even an article or a news about Busquets dive or something ..they just counted 10 simulations and he was in one of them...it doesn't make him well known for diving right ? thats all what i felt.

and i really dont know what is writing at Ronaldo page..if it is the same i think we should tehn discuss it and remove it because the same reasoning should go for ronaldo then so we can be according to : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons#Tone

Thank you an i am happy to discuss anything you want :)

Adnan (talk) 10:39, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

Just read the article you said about at Ronaldo...It is really a clear interview with the coach talking about this..right ? and just read the 2nd link you have sent me..it sounded to me like he is defending Neymar for diving ..am i correct ?

Adnan (talk) 10:44, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

Simone Pepe (and others)[edit]

Hi there MRULEZ, tutto bene?

Please, like you did in this player's article, don't add mere links (in this case FIGC.IT) as refs. Also (in storyline) we don't have to be mentioning all the time X team won Y or Z title.

On a related note, keep up the great work, from Portugal --84.90.219.128 (talk) 18:38, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

Happy Saturday --84.90.219.128 (talk) 19:18, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

I think we can also find something in the Italian web about him not appearing at the 2006 Under-21 Championships, surely man. About the translations, I try to be as concise as I can, always, and if the Italian title does not say "League", then the English should not as well. Best! --84.90.219.128 (talk) 19:34, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

Again (if you check my talkpage), scolded for wanting to help :( What I meant is think it is preferable to have newspaper articles, official club press releases and akin for the storyline, links should be in the pertinent section for easy consultation, not saying what you did was wrong per se because it was not. Sorry if I mislead you, cheers from Portugal --84.90.219.128 (talk) 22:29, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

No, no, not at all. Please, not to worry, you were very polite, I just wanted to double check with you to ensure I avoided future mistakes, and you told me that it would be better to have sources which actually related specifically to his international debut, etc. rather than a link with all his appearances listed, because then it would be more difficult to verify. All the best! Messirulez (talk) 02:55, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

No, I was not scolded by you my kind fellow user, but by user Struway who dropped his opinion there. All is also resolved with him, let's continue with the show :) A question: is it me or was Miguel Britos' reaction in that box incident with Morata greatly exaggerated (one slight push has a vicious headbutt as reply?)? He's risking a long (looooooooooooooooong) suspension, is he not?

Cheers --84.90.219.128 (talk) 14:31, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Yes, ridiculous. I hate it when players behave in that manner on the pitch; it's inexcusable. I also can't stand playacting in football, unfortunately the game has many serious problems that need to be overcome.

Hi[edit]

can you please tell us your opinion about this topic : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Thomas_Vermaelen.27s_page_question_please_:

Hi.[edit]

Hello, I have been working to improve this article since quite time List of FC Barcelona records and statistics but still there is some records I can't really find a reference for it online at least in English pages, can you help with this ?and if you have any suggestion about the page like add new records , remove some please let me know . I am planning to work after this on List of Real Madrid C.F. records and statistics and then on Football records in Spain. Thank you .Adnan (talk) 19:46, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
