Man shot in leg while playing soccer in Carlton

A man is in hospital with a gunshot wound after he was shot while playing soccer in Carlton on Thursday night.

The 25-year-old Kings Park man was reportedly playing soccer with friends at the public housing estate at Drummond Street when he was shot in the leg at 10.30pm.

He spent the night at Western Hospital in Footscray and is expected to be interviewed by police on Friday morning.

It is unclear whether the victim and shooter are known to each other or whether it was a random attack.

Ambulance Victoria said the man took himself to hospital.

Pictures from the scene show multiple police vans and SES crews at the housing estate, and an established crime scene.
