The Houzz State of the Industry is an annual report providing an overview of 2016 and an outlook for 2017 for residential renovation and design businesses, based on data reported by more than 4,800 professionals in the Houzz community.

Findings from the 2017 Houzz State of the Industry include:

• Firms are bullish on 2017: Companies in six of the seven industry groups specializing in residential renovation and/or design expect 2017 annual gross revenues to grow at higher rates compared to 2016. Architects are the exception, anticipating growth rates in line with 2016.

• 2016 is the best year in recent history for one in three firms: A third or more of companies across all industry groups reported that 2016 was the best year in the past ten-year period since the financial crisis (2007-2016).
  
  
• Rising labor and material costs drove increased cost of doing business in 2016: At least three in five companies in each industry group reported that the cost of doing business increased in 2016, in line with 2015. Labor, products, and materials are the most cited cost drivers.
