You no longer need to have a piano to enjoy a piano lamp. But what is a piano lamp? Traditionally used to illuminate the piano keys and sheet music during recitals and concerts, piano lights can now be used as desk lamps, table lamps and even bedside table lamps. A classic piano lamp has a horizontal shade, much like a picture light, that is hooded to avoid direct glare. They are usually adjustable with a weighted base and counterweighted arm, and this is because they used to have to remain stable while the light leant over the edge of the piano.
