Join our tours, talks and lectures to learn more about the NGA, the collection and special exhibitions. We cover a host of topics including art and design, architecture, literature and history – there is definitely something for everyone.

Scheduled tours

We offer NGA highlights tours every day at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm. Guided tours of the permanent collection are free and bookings are not essential. Special exhibition tours vary and tickets may be required.

Booked group tours

K–12 School and tertiary groups

Schools and tertiary institutions can book group tours from 10.00am weekdays. A minimum of one supervising adult to 15–20 students is required for school group tours, with the ratio of one adult to six children in early childhood tours. Entry is free to the collection and to special exhibitions for booked groups and students aged 16 and under.

We welcome self-guided tours, however, please book your visit and note that teachers must remain with groups at all times. Larger groups of students must be split into groups of no more than 15 students accompanied by one adult.

School and group tours

The NGA conducts tours for groups tailoring to special needs and abilities.

We design tours for community groups, conferences, clubs, tourist coaches and languages other than English – just let us know what you need!

Art and Dementia program tours

The Art and Dementia program is a free, discussion-based tour of works of art for those living with dementia.

Private tours

Private guided tours are a great way to explore the Gallery and may be included in private bookings for a fee. Gallery spaces are subject to availability.
